So far, we have identified several pitfalls for new players at the tutorial:
- Picking 200% rations leads to financial loss and later morale decline, resulting in a downward spiral.
- Not assigning guards during rest also leads to a decline in morale
- Sleeping more frequently than necessary consumes scarce supplies and resources, exacerbating the downward spiral.
We have plans to address these identified issues.
Please continue to inform us here, via email, or on Discord if you have any further thoughts!
It is somewhat intended that you need to return to resupply. However, we acknowledge your concern that things can go wrong if you attempt to do both tasks in one go. We will consider how to enhance that aspect of the game without making it unfitting to the setting.
Oh i played during august or so. Wanted to start a new game to check out all the new goodies. And since doing the Pilgrims of the Wasteland gives some bonus (cant recall whatXD) i figured i'll do it in a few hours.
I knew that resources are scarce so i figured i'll get some extra bross in the arena fights. (Or whatever they are that are similar.)
Welp. Did not work. I won 2 or 3 fights but my guys became quite wounded, and by the time we got attacked the first time, a few days later on the road we failed utterly, as nobody healed up. During the five or so days since they left the town only once did a single character receive 1 bar of health, since they were around 4-5 HP that did not help, and made us lose the next combat thus ending our journey.
I would say it is also something that can occur.
(When i used to play more actively during EA and when it was published, i remember i calculated out how to gain the most money while also surviving from the metal we get:D)
Sadly i cant recall what the enemy numbers are and as so i cant really give any feedback.
I know i redid the fight three times during my first run before finally succeeding.
D,
... I suppose the breakages could be considered a bigger issue, but I was also wanting to reload for savescum reasons lol. (Also the breakages seemed to be Linux-specific and possibly even specific to my machine.)
I can't express how disappointed I was when I thought I was finally going to be able to sell off all that scrap metal that was burdening my inventory the entire time. I spent hours bouncing between towns to generate wealth via trades. Upgrading my inventory to compensate for the scrap metal I was carrying, thinking it was actually important to do so. All while going on a goose chase for Sedarias.
I couldn't figure out how to get to Deven. I stockpiled supplies and tried making my way around the map but reached dead ends every time. Had to keep reloading autosaves from when I left town because relying on resting autosaves would have caused me to starve to death. Eventually realized the only way to progress was through Ash. At that point I was immersed and committed, all I wanted to do was save my comitatus, but it was cut short just before my goal was reached.
The companions introduced in the tutorial are too well designed to just be abruptly tossed aside and forgotten about. Morwen and Javek were really enjoyable to have in my party. They have a backstory of being part of my comitatus from before the start of the game. Sedarias was cool too, though if I knew he was just going to end up attacking me, I wouldn't have equipped him with items and spent insight to level him up. Their character design was top tier and they were fun to use in combat. Honestly they're what sold the game for me. The companions you get in the main game are fine, they just don't compare to the prequel characters. It's such a waste to have them all locked behind a tutorial.
There were too many loose ends that weren't tied off. Sedarias was certain that he was betrayed by his own people, someone with authority, just how deep does the defection go. Just who was that Abolitionist leader, a woman that Javek seemed to know from his time as a slave perhaps. Who taught him how to do sorcery. Where does he disappear to right before we get killed off. Does he have something to do with the Last Pilgrimage seemingly following us around, showing up three times when even two encounters was unheard of up until then.
If I could recommend one major change it would be to integrate the two stories together into one epic experience. Character creation starts at the beginning of PotW, then change up the final encounter to not be game over and let us proceed from there. Have that old man that decided to go separate ways right before our final encounter come back to save us after we've been defeated. Have the Last Pilgrimage wander off again like during the second encounter. Have Javek, who was supposed to be our long time friend, return to us and do some sorcery to save us.
I might be wrong and please if you can repro the issue send us a bug report using the built-in bugreporter (accessible via F1 key) so we can investigate further.
My 2 cents: This game has by far one of the best crafted/guided tutorials I have ever experienced, by a mile. And RPG/strategy games are my bread & butter.
I can't put aside enough time to do it all in one sitting
The game autosaves every time you sleep or leave a town.
