(Also there are worse encounters just to encourage you:D)
Well you need to increase the combat abilities of your companions. For some it is not that hard, for others...it is troublesome.
Also be careful as the insight amount you need to increase combat abilities increases with the ability level. So you got a fix set of insight per char so be careful on what you spend your points on.
Harvek ->tons of town visiting and hope the encounter triggers, and after a while you should be able to advance (never did so far)
Eylani -> once you get Tectum fully defended....yep takes ages:D (got to level 6 with her)
Gor'-> apparantly you need to win arena fights....only one was ticked as champion for me...so..also level 3 stuck
Skornar-> linear advancement, though if you do not read the texts of settlements you might miss where you need to go.
Dark Elf-> easy till level 5
Krifta and Finn and Firemancer girl (forgot her name)-> very linear
Garrik -> easy level 5
Also the fight with a level 6 Skornar Level 5 Eylani is not that hard. (They can block, and heal up, just add the idol to one and give the other the leech item. This way you can survive. while your back row will be protected)
Your companion level is too low. You should be attempting this encounter about level 6/7 or higher.
There were a few fights that were too hard, but I think they've all been fixed in updates. Otherwise it's the same basic idea as many RPGs: if something is too hard, the game is telling you that you shouldn't be doing that bit yet.
