Long Loading Times?
Loving the game so far! I can see all the neat inspiration, and all the love poured into it. Truly a great game in my opinion!

One question I was wondering, is there an issue with loading times on the steam version when starting up the game? I put the game on my fast SSD (PCIe Gen4 and ~6GB/s), but it seem to load rather slow, just wondering if I am having some problems.

The game is front-loaded. While in other games you typically get to the main menu quickly but then wait an extensive time for your save to be loaded up, we went the opposite way with Vagrus. Load everything at the start to make save loading quicker.

It's that way for me too. Once I'm in the game loading save games and the like is fast but the first load when I launch the game is always slow.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Aha I see, thanks! That does make sense actually. I rather wait a bit extra at the start :)

Complete preload seems not a must from end-user point of view/experience: I'd rather have incremental one during the text dialogues.

Longest load time in my library.

Such approach is not justified and the time to load the game is way too long. And there is time to load the save file anyway!

On the same PC I load (game+save) 3D open world games (like Skyrim or Witcher) faster than this one... Pls fix.

If the long load time on the front end is what makes loading saves in game easier then I'm all for it given how much save scumming I feel compelled to do to avoid the completely lopsided crew combat fights in the game.

Loooong loading time
Boot up of the game is taking like 3 mis for me, granted it's loading from an HDD but still is this normal?

yes even on ssd initial boot time is long

Yes, the long initial load time is a significant barrier to starting the game. I don't think I've ever played a game with a load time this long.

Normally I would never be one to complain about front-loaded "long" load times - as it seems these days people's tolerance of this is much lower than it used to be - but I do have to agree in this instance.

While I appreciate that saves at least do load quickly, for a game that's primarily text-based, the time it takes to load, even on an SSD, is very noticeable indeed.

Hopefully they can improve on this somewhat moving forward.

(BTW, if this were switched so that saves take this long to load instead, I suspect everyone would be complaining that loading saves takes too long. Surely the total time - loading the game initially + loading a save (ie total startup time) - can be reduced to be more reasonable. Especially on an SSD.).

These load times are pain ridiculous, Sadly making me not want to play the game. incremental loading is much less of a hassle than this.

These have been MASSIVELY improved since a number of patches ago - it takes around 50% or maybe even 30% or less the time it took when it came out.

Definitely recommend coming back to the game if this is the one thing holding you back.

Note that it's still front-loaded - so although it takes much less time for the game to start up now, it still takes very little time to load a save, and during the game there's only the occasional hitch (showing there may still be improvements down the road as someone didn't multithread something properly it seems - it doesn't annoy TOO much though given this is a turn-based game).

I dont know if this helps but when i get long loads or a long time to open and save the game i go into the save folder and deleted like 300 or more save files. I have so many saves but maybe im parnoid. At the least it does help when i go to save the game.

Since the original post in late '21, early '22, we have significantly reduced loading times.
We are aware that a save game folder containing a large number of saves can cause slowdowns, and addressing that is on our to-do list (no promises). However, that should not affect loading times, only the initial listing of available saves.
