Windows 11 conflict causing massive pink spike flurrry
There seems to be a problem using Index and this specific program with Windows 11. Every now and then, when starting up Steam VR, i get a huge flurry of pinks spikes that cause juddering. After uninstalling your program, the issue resolves itself. I have tried this on two different computers with two different headsets and the issue is reproducible. That all being said, it only started happening lately, so imagine its either to do with a specific windows 11 update or an nvidia driver issue (both comps are using nvidia gpus).

At this link you can read about what caused this whole problem and how it is solved in the SteamVR beta and how fpsVR solves it for both the non-beta SteamVR and the Oculus service.

Please run Create_fpsVR_Report.exe in the fpsVR root folder. Upload the created fpsVR_Report.zip file to any file sharing service, post link to this file
Your error report system doesn't seem to be working. I use the app to create the report and nothing shows in the corresponding folder.

Just checked, report generation works under Windows 11 Version 10.0.22000.194

1. Please tell me which build you used (use winver.exe or cmd.exe to check)
2. What antivirus are you using?

just windows defender. I am using the same build. I have figured out how to make reports now. They were not saving to the error folder, but just into the main directory. Can you message me on steam and ill send figure out how to send you the file. not comfortable linking my system files and whatnot in a public forum. cheers.

Further investigation reveals that this is less an FPSVR issue and more of a Steam VR not liking Windows 11 issue. The problem stems from a flurry of pink spikes appearing when certain windows are opened on the desktop when in VR. This issue happens whenever i open 'Settings' while in Steam VR, for instance.

However, this time round, It started pink spike juddering because the fps app opened onto the desktop as opposed to staying minimised to tray as it usually does. None of this happened to me while i was in windows 10, alas. Lets hope they fix it.

I tried to reproduce this but with no success. And I already wanted to write to you about this ... when suddenly a Discord notification window popped up, someone mentioned me in the chat ... and I got the same effect as you. After a while, the problem went away on its own, apparently because the notification disappeared. Moreover, the fpsVR window and the SteamVR settings window does not reproduce the problem in any way. Very strange.

I'm using nvidia driver 471.96. Will try update it.

Apparently its something to do with Chromium based apps being open on the desk top interfering with it? Apparently the issue was already there in Windows 10, but its much more pronounced in Windows 11.

Regarding dealing with the problem with FPSVR on my computer, if I start the index from the headset and then turn on the controllers afterwards (as opposed to starting the index from the controllers by turning them on), it seems to stop it specifically in relation to FPSVR. Again, this is all a very recent issue with me.

Received confirmation from another person, and he had a problem with the window of the game itself, issue happens when the game window is maximized, when it was minimized everything become normal. And he uses Dev version: 10.0.22463.1000

Clearly an issue that doesn't relate to your app but a larger conflict with steam VR and larger infrastructure. I hope they fix this. Thanks for being so forthcoming.

I have Chrome open all the time, and never had anything like that on Windows 10.

Well, it may only affect certain hardware configurations, but its certainly a thing. https://steamcommunity.com/app/908520/discussions/1/2956040588024610987/?tscn=1632660564

It is a common issue with windows 11 and SteamVR right now. Which is why i am still on windows 10. Because windows 11 has too many bugs right now to be even worth upgrading too.
EDIT: I do like the look of windows 11 and i want to upgrade to windows 11 right now. But it has too many bugs and issues in its current state.

You are wise and i am not. I should have dual booted. Still, i thank you for your reply. At least i know categorically it isn't a hardware issue. However, if you want to see a VR headset truly not work in Windows 11, try the occulus with the Link cable. That is completely and utterly borked! At least the valve index remains functional. If the issues have not been ironed out after the 5th of october, i will roll back to trusty old Windows 10.
