One of the main reasons I'm buying this version is that I have 1 friend who will regularly play 4th with me and thoroughly enjoys it and 2-3 I can very occasionally rope into playing, but due to time differences and just preference.. the length of game overall makes something that they can't/won't jump on playing more often. With 5th streamlining things hopefully that'll change. Once we play it tonight we'll have a better idea on how game length will now compare. Sorta. We do usually play with a bunch of extra expansions in 4th after all. Hopefully the changes made to 5th will make the game show up more regularly in our online gaming picks.
At the moment, it is just the base game, but it is a bit different as there are rule changes and I think at least one space on the board is different. (I don't recall Caverns being on the board in the older version.) I like what I've read about the changes to becoming a toad, but there is also an option to use the older rule for that.
Also a little note is that, good feedback now may make a better product in the long run, but to give good feedback, it helps if people actually play the game. :)
But everyone is free to do what they want. I've still got 4th edition installed, so I can play that one when I want to, but right now I'm still learning about the 5th edition changes. (And getting used to the dice change, which is not one I would have done if I was the maker of the board game. The Talisman symbol is far too easy to mistake for a 1.)
