What's different over Talisman: Digital Edition?
This is an adaptation of the 5th Edition of Talisman, so it's got new rules, new cards and new art - we're literally adapting the physical version, so anything new in the physical board game will be brought over to the digital game we're making too.

Even if we'd like to add a fishing mini-game to add some extra spice to your Talisman games, we can't do that if there isn't one in the physical version (unless Games Workshop add a fishing mini-game to the physical game, in which case we can).

We've also completely stripped back a lot of the old, 10 year old code that Talisman: Digital Edition had to run on due to technical debt to rebuild 5th Edition from the ground up, meaning we can make things run a lot more smoothly and make changes that just wouldn't be possible in Talisman: Digital Edition without unintentionally breaking things.

I don't like the 5th Edition rules changes, so I'll stick with 4th Edition

That's totally fine if you'd like to do that! Based on the number of people that have expressed this though, we're planning to implement house rules that allow you to bring 5th Edition closer to the Revised 4th Edition experience, if that's what you prefer. e.g. Serious Toadings. :TalProToad:

Will I get a discount on this for owning Talisman DLC?

That's the plan! As the only person here at Nomad who deals with comments, press AND our storefronts, I've not had a chance to look at this properly yet to get it set up. But I will be taking a look soon!

A whole new game. They are reworking the UI and making it seamless navigation. It really needed it, thats only reason I dont play atm even after owning all the content on multiple devices is that the UI really ruins the fun for me.

For a start from the Youtube Trailer of it, the character models are in 3D, which is a million times better than some 2d sprite sliding accross the screen.

Totally agree!

The UI made in unplayable.

So basically this should be a free update (at most a DLC for the models, which are mediocre at best anyway) but it's a whole new game at full price?

Well.. Theoretically, it is a new game, but practically the same with a graphic upgrade. A few cosmetic changes in rules, e.g. a toad for one turn, the ability to choose any alignment for adventurer at start, you can't die, a slightly different system of improving statistics through trophies (you don't need 7 points), some cards causing loss of turn etc. have been removed, two adventurers less (druid and minstrel was removed) In fact it's nothing groundbreaking that can't be easily implemented for any older edition of the game.

Graphically, the game looks "modern" with all its consequences. Character graphics look a bit like those made by AI, adventure cards, spells, etc., are less legible. The entire board is smaller, a font with no atmosphere is used and, most noticeably, the fields on the board have been turned upside down compared to previous versions of the game.

What I am writing about concerns the tabletop version of this game, because I have already had the opportunity to see it. Digital version will certainly solve the problem of poor card readability, but its artstyle and game rules will remain the same.

Of course, there is no point in complaining about Nomad Games, because they only create games for digital platforms. In a nutshell, it will actually be the same good old Talisman, only with newer graphics and minor changes to the rules.

Personally, I don't like new version at all and as owner of 4th edition with all DLC'cs, I won't buy this new one.

It's a new version of the game. As in, the physical board game. Which some of you might have forgotten exists and is th esource for the digital version.
The fifth editoion (phyiscal) comes out in july and just like before, this changes the boardgame itself (rules, layout, design). The core gameplay will stay the same but if you have played older editons before fourth you know it's more than just a paint job.
Nomad Games is just making another digital adaption of that new boardgame, which is amazing.
I feared they might not get the license for the new edition since it's now in the hands of another corporation but it looks like I was wrong.

You mean graphic downgrade? The new graphics in 5th edition are terrible, cheap looking renders.

Some of the changes of 5th edition board game compared to the 4th (these changes are for the physical game, but we can assume the adaptation will follow suit)

* Spending fate to change your movement die no longer rerolls it, you choose 1-6, for other rolls it stay as a reroll
* Toad now lasts 1 turn, you don't drop your gold, items or followers when you turn into a toad anymore, in fact you can't lose gold or items while you are a toad (it's like they turned into a toad alongside you) you can still lose followers and can still benefit from them as a toad. You cannot gain objects gold or followers while you are a toad
* When another character defeats you in combat you gain a fate if you are still alive (other rules of combat still apply, taking a life or item from the loser etc)
* Defeating an enemy of equal or higher strength/craft then you lets you gain one strength/craft instead of taking it as a trophy (don't know if it's base value or total, the overview of the rules on the hasbro site says it's base, but that sounds broken to me, I hope it's a mistake)
* The default ending is no longer crown of commands it's fight a 10/10 strength/craft dragon and you win if you beat it
* Talismans no longer count toward your item limit, you cannot voluntary drop a talisman

That's all I know so far, the source is the hasbro site talisman 5th page and the pictures on the polygon article from 5 days ago

These new rules are crap. Talisman is meant to be unfair and mean, PvP oriented. Now they took out traditional ending slapping a nonsensical dragon, rewarding PvP loss with fate and nerfing the Toads.

Plus removed Druid and Ministrel from traditional character roster.

Not gonna buy this thing. Not now, not ever, not even for free.

The UI in the screenshots is exactly the same(original switch UI) ... just slightly different at maybe a higher resolution.... and that UI is garbage...... It was slightly acceptable on a pc with a mouse or touch screen.

I cant believe they nerfed toads? like WTF.... Ive been playing this game since its original release in 83 when i was 12.

This looks like cash grab and not fan service... original artwork is charming this new stuff is so mid. Had they used the artwork board and cards from the 5th edition Id let this slide some(let us zoom even more on a card to read the text like in magic the gathering arena.
the new digital art and board looks like poop

I wonder if the Talisman Digital Edition will be taken offline? Can you not see the plans to sell th esame 50 dlcs to us again with minimal effort? Whole new game my arse.
TheVampire100 May 23, 2024 @ 3:12pm
There are no plans for the fourth edition to go down, in fact, they made 4th edition (base game) f2p so more people can play it.

I got a stiffy as soon as I saw this.

No they should be paid for the work they have put into this version but I do think it would be fair to provide owners of previous versions with a reasonable discount on the new version.
