The ending depends instead on dialogue choices: when you reach Kovas camp you have a few crucial choices among a large pool of them that depends on your party composition.
For instance, if you arrive there with Xuni, you are allowed to take a drastic action (or rather, you might allow him to take it) that "delays" your travel; while if you have Harro, depending on your choices, he might let you take a shortcut to a node in the dialogue that lets you then arrive "early" to Pantella.
There are a number of these combinations that happen there, and depending on choices + party you might visit a very different Kovas's Camp each time, and after that, one of two very different Pantella.
