I can only use the main menu

I just bought the game because it seems promising however, when I tried to start the storymode the game transitions to a black screen followed by a loop of 1-2 seconds of ambient sound that keeps repeating with no end in sight. I tried lowering the specs and even reinstalling up to no avail.
