Issues with newer versions of MacOS and/or Apple Silicon

There's an older post saying it works with 64bit MacOS but ut doesn't seem to be the case with the latest MacOS (Sonoma 14.3.1) on an M2 MacBook Pro. It starts but I cannot get past the first screen, it doesn't seem like I can select anything at all. Hence, I can't start the actual game
