Heavy armor classes tend to be best
Glaive - max str (Glass cannon but you hit anyone like a truck)
Shortsword & shield - Tanky (2k armor does wonders) max armor ,CC heavy, damage low, expect few kills, lots of assists
Longsword & shield - Tanky support ,max toughness, but I hear a mix of ideas, such as half half armor & toughness, point defense and allies love your healing
Maul - All armor, blunt damage does good .you make men go splat, you grab men and say Bye bye to his allies, etc etc ,lots of things I dislike but it is a tank killer to sum it up,few anti CC skills
poleaxe - all armor ,you already do good damage with meta loadout, roll out of rough justice (they stay stuck for whole duration ,which I dislike but I should mention),hard CC & such heavy
Glaive-all str ,but heard arguements for other things, Heavy damage ,has a CC immunity ability which helps against most CC but Rough justice (poleaxe) ,Duel blade's ult and send enemies flying abilities to my knowledge (a special type of KD that most anti CC does not counter)
Medium armor
Musket - full strength ,musket bomb (ult one) ,very good CC abilities that can also do damage
nodachi - I hear mainly full strength but overall little compared to rest I hear about Life steal, tends to be called one of the worse but they can do work
Spear - All agility ,glass cannon ,horse focused (combo is generally poke poke poke on horse, than jump, than dragon roar with the kick to finish if they still live)
Light armor
(generally called the worse due to low durability,as in a SS&S can damage them rather well without any damage investment)
Longbow - Ranged damage, tend to hear it called bad but I hear opposite too, uses stam to fire (get on horse to help there)
Shortbow - High damage, good escapes and such
Duel blades - the assassin ,high damage, invest in strength if I recall, glass cannon but you can peform a similar trick to the Poleaxe's rough justice one ,also grab the dagger throw (Stupidly nice)
Things on the ranged weapons
1. They can destroy artillery weapons
2. headshots stagger
3. backshots stagger
4. Two can keep a person locked down (best with shortbows or muskets) by CC
5. good at kill stealing/securing
Personally I am a Shortsword & shield, you get very nice durability ( I have had three to four guys wailing on me while I am on the ground and after I get back up,I tend to get away to heal after having them all waste their abilities)
thank you very much! this was a helpful read
Id like to add that with Poleaxe you have a second viable way to skill it. With the Idavollr Rune in your weapon you can split your skill points between armour and toughness, end up with more than 30 K life and become a Grade A front line Tank. I love that skillset (and i dont use Rough Justice) and having two ways makes testing a poleaxe an even richer experience.
But in the end my advice is: test weapons until you find what you really like. Level them at least until you unlock the better Ulti (most weapons have one). Watch some vids, choose a playstyle you might like and go for it. HF mate.
Every weapon can be good. You just require skill and good equipment. So just take the weapon that looks the coolest and is the most fun for you to play and go with it.
