The man-at-arms can form up a very tight and strong shieldwall, it only covers one side but it feels stronger than the palace guards wall.
The prefecture guards are ironcap swordsmen on steroids, their prefecture drill can improve their damage and their attack rate but they die pretty quickly in a brawl. They are not a defensive unit.
I don't know if the palace guards can form shieldwall but if you want defense i suggest men-at-arms and spear sergeants.
Men at arms are level 15. I like the mini wall. i like how you can make them jump hte dude in front of you and kill him. But they are lackluster for the leadership IMO. I quit leveling them.
Pref guards are a very strong unit. Priced right, very tanky. I use them very often and highly recommend them.
I also like Squires. Before you flame me haters... they have a little more HP and attack than Pref guards. They dont get the extra ability that pref gets but they do get a fast charge reset and they move much faster than pref. I have used both in my warparty and scored in top 3 or MVP over and over without even bringing in a different unit. I was beating my house group repeatedly and they had T5's out.
In the end, ALL units can be good if played right but of the three you asked about, pref guards all the way.
Which Vet line did you train on your Prefecture?
And do you use Prefecture guards and Squires at the same time in the same match?
Interesting.
Don't you find the Spear Sergeants better or do you not use them?
but with a bit of pratice and upgrade they are usefull anytime, anywhere.
prefecture Guard = my personal favoriate, priced fair, doesn't take too much leadership, very strong and durable, and no speed plenty,
palace guard = this unit needs a speed buff, it's a very strong and durable unit, but its movement is just stupdily slow, and hard to manage.
How are the Tseregs?
I hear they get a knock down but are quite fragile.
Set up a flank, Charge in to do some massive immediate damage and get them in the brawl as you fly in yourself, set up their "cover me" #3 ability so they stay tight to you, use their Prefecture Drill, and just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CLEAN HOUSE!
They are blitzkrieg warfare units. ♥♥♥♥♥♥' US Army Sappers. Get in, hit hard, ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ up, get out and reset, rinse repeat until all the enemy is dead. Their kill-to-death rate even against higher tier units is excessive with the charge-group-drill combo, and they provide you an extra meat shield on the side. They can ♥♥♥♥ UP a group of heroes with that combo, and the fact that they stay tight to you means you always feel like you have the advantage even in a 1v3 fight. It's a great, great personal guard.
In fact, that's what I use them for. They are legit my personal guard. When I need to ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ up, and I plan on taking some matters into my own hands, these are my elite band of murderous warriors I bring with me. They are my Inglorious Basterds lol
prefecture guards: both top veterancy lines are viable, decent charge, decent hp/def stats, really good on offense with perfecture drill
palace guard: top veterancy line seems better to me since it combines with unit tree upgrades and they dont have heal abbility to sustain themselves in shield formation. top also gives them a lot of passive abbilities like can hit 2 units with 1 strike, shield bash, attacking dazes enemies and their charge is strong but hard to get off properly because of their painfully slow movement
