older doom 3 package, not able to access in steam?

i bought doom 3 years ago when it first came out, still have the packaging and discs and wanted to install through steam, but the cdkey doesnt seem to work in activation, there some way to install with the discs then install the expansion on steam? or some way to get an updated key that will work without purchasing a new copy? thanks
