EAX 4 Echo
So I just bought a Sound Blaster Z and gave EAX a go unfortunately the game has a real bad Echo with it turned on. Is this working as intended? If it is I would say it is a weird and somewhat bad esign choice.

I've always found the EAX is just plain awful in Doom3, it was like that when it was first patched in and it's never been fixed that I know of.
It's just huge amounts of reverb and sounds terrible.

Anyone knows how to fix this issue? I have external Creative SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro, but with EAX on, Doom 3 sounds absolutely horrible. Permanent echo doesnt allow to hear voices properly, its like underwater all the time... I have Win 10 32bit, no compatibilitiy settings fixes this problem :( , neither Alchemy on.

There is no fix for the issue because there's nothing wrong on your end. EAX was just really poorly implemented in this game. They just added a 100% reverb layer to the entire stereo output and called it a day. It sounds just as bad natively on WinXP with a Creative X-Fi.

Yeah I eventually figured that out. EAX was a great idea and fantastic when implemented well (see Bioshock), but unfortunately we don't get anything like that anymore just bad PCM.
