doom 3 is bad doom? what?

can someone explain to me why people consider doom 3 a weak doom? after all, there is everything in this game. secrets, lots of weapons, interesting maps, even ignoring the fact that 20+ levels are the base on mars, and we have a sprint that when used well will give the impression that we are playing a remake of the first doom i completed doom 3 and i think is a 3 best game from series. I invite to the discussion

bad ? no but I just prefer any other Doom for being faster paced and more Oriented on actions and shooting rather then atmostphere and story telling.

Doom 3 is too much cramped in small corridors , there is not enough variety in the level designs in my opinion , it's look great for it's time amd I had fun with it but I don't feel like replaying it as much then even Doom 1 or 2.

however, these narrow corridors turn into larger or smaller rooms and then you can show your real skill

oh it´s just people that didn´t like Doom 3 for whatever reasons, don´t pay too much attention to it...

when the game came out you had some of the original Doom "hardcore" fans that said it wasn´t like the old ones enough and thus bad.

then there were lots of casuals that just complained that it was too dark and you couldn´t use flashlight and weapons at the same time.

then HL2 came out and lots of people said HL2 is better!!

I mean yeah HL2 is a good game but it´s a completely different game other than being a FPS, I see no point saying one is better than the other, you can prefer one over the other but that´s it.… Doom 3 is Doom 3 and HL2 is HL2.

then when Doom16 came out there was a new bandwagon again saying that that is what Doom should always be (arena action and glory kill simulator) and that Doom 3 was crap (again) which then led to that recent atrocity called Super Mario Doom He-Man Eternal Sunshine (Tag2) and the Unicorn. lol

it´s all a load of BS ofc, Doom 3 is a great game on its own and a great Doom game, one of the best Sci-fi horror action game ever made.

it still holds up today almost 20 years later, enough said.

Doom 3 is much more DIFFERENT then every other Doom game,slower placed,marine runs slower,game is much more darker and scary with too many imp jump scares,much less enemies are ecountered at once,rarely more than 3.
People also said enviorments like office corridors are very repetative and look samey(I agree but don't mind it.I would have prefered more Hell lvs,doom 3 hell lv is 10/10.

This game also features less secrets unlike other dooms which had many.
Gun sound is also weak,and many complaied the weapon dmg is RNG based(not true),most likely because D3 player shotgun had random 22 degree spread.Literaly possible to not oneshot an imp from more than 2 meter,due to spread.

I think D 3 is Imo a very good game,but obviously a very bad run and gun&rip and tear game unlike other dooms.

there are fewer enemies because even 2 imps and one revenant is a challenge so giving more of them would be annoying but yes the shotgun spread is annoying i agree

for me, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ such stupid things that it's too dark is stupid, in the first doom and 2 there were dark levels, the psx port probably had all the dark levels, doom 64 and the final doom had a lot of them. and referring to the flashlight, I do not understand this hate, each opponent's eyes are lit and we can deduce where he is and kill him without flashlight

People's desapointment with the game probaly is a result of expectations, we all know how expectations that aren't met can turn a "good" game/movies/series into a horrible one to our eyes, but in my personal opinion, Doom 3 is my favorite one, even if I played doom I and II beforehand, Doom 3 is the one that got me interested in the franchise in the first place, so maybe I could say I have a bias towards it ? Anyway, i just used 7zip to make my own "mods" such as correcting shotgun spread, increasing the health of cacodemon's and such and such, and now i can definetively say it is the one I have the most enjoyement playing.

personally I played Doom Eternal and really liked the combat in it but it's also a very demanding game where you really have to get the execution right and there is not much place for mistake ... the main issue for me are not even the platforming section , it's the over reliance on the chainsaw to get ammunitions.

2016 was better then Eternal but I don't agree that Eternal is an abobination or atrocity the same way I don't agree when peoples start saying Doom 3 is not a real Doom game.

they're pretty much all games in a single franchise that explore different aspects of first person games and it's fine.

sure, I was a bit sarcastic about Eternal, I personally didn´t enjoy it much for a number of reasons but yeah it´s another iteration of what a Doom game can be if you like it it´s fine.

still I think they went in the wrong direction with the presentation, story and lore, the tone of the game is also problematic at times (for me) and some of the gameplay changes aren´t really better than D16.

there has also been a shift from horror sci-fi to more generic fantasy settings and vibe I really didn´t dig too much.

all in all I prefer Doom16 by a long shot but hey each his own...

my ideal next Doom game would be something like Doom3, Doom64 and Doom16 merged together

people always sh*t on "Doom 3" for being survival horror, and yet, they fail to realize that the classic "Doom" series from the early-to-mid 1990's (despite it being heavy on action) was also technically based on "survival horror", as you're the only human soldier left alive (while others were killed or got zombified).

They don't understand Doom 3, and they all base their opinion of Doom 3 by regurgitating what some random idiot on youtube told them about Doom 3 and how it was "bad".

They all compare Doom 3 with previous Doom games, not knowing that Doom 3 should be taken as its own thing, it has zero connection to previous Doom games.
Doom 3 is Doom as if the previous games never existed.

Doom 3 is an excellent Doom game and a product of its time, the only real weak part that it has, is the Cyberdemon fight.

Plus, we have its source code and plenty of co-op mods for it, that alone puts it above newer Doom games.

Its different but it still maintains the essence of DOOM in my opinion. Its slower pace but that works very well with the atmosphere that the game is going for. The game is one of a kind.
