Find the two Doomconfig.cfg in the subdirectories of the Doom3 game :
seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_customWidth "1920"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_mode "-1"
However the screen may stutter and you have difficulties to change between tasks.
To correct that play it in windowed mode with theses statements (For me that worked the best):
seta r_customHeight "1050"
seta r_customWidth "1680"
seta r_fullscreen "0"
seta r_mode "-1"
Windows 10 has a bad tendency to apply adaptive environements... if you want to run Doom 3 in it's original environement to remove other problems: then set Doom3.exe compatibility to Windows XP and maybe even Administrator Mode, to work around windows 10 "proactiveness".
Try this, let me know if you need any help :)
https://joshmccarty.com/2011/08/run-the-steam-version-of-doom-3-in-widescreen/
seta r_aspectRatio "1"
Otherwise Doom will not set the changed resolution correctly.
The difference being?
I wouldn't, DOOM 3 has mod support allowing you to customize the game far more than the BFG edition would allow you to. Plus, they altered some of the things in the BFG edition that made the original great, such as allowing you to always have the flashlight on regardless of the weapon you are holding. In my opinion, it kills the atmosphere.
That's what I heard and believe
