but for me, "Site 3" was the creepiest level in the whole game. Why, you might ask? because it delves into the origins of the SoulCube that you had retained earlier during the trip to Hell, including from that one scientist whom you meet up with after he tells you to take his PDA.
Dunno, played it for the first time in 2011-2012 and it felt pretty much like that, granted, not from the beginning, but the more i played the more i saw through the jumpscares. I had a pretty old pc (like 2004 old, with a GeForce FX 5200) so it's not like some newer game set the bar too high or something. Played on mid settings, i had to disable my antivirus to play with dynamic shadows at 40 ish fps.
I remember there's a cubicle-office type area in Central Processing in which an imp jumps at you from the corner the moment you enter, supposedly he's hidden behind the wall, but there's some boxes outside that you can push around, then you jump on them and you can see that there's nothing inside said cubicle. The moment you enter it the imp just appears there, no teleporting effect or anything, he's just pops into existence.
That one stuck with me, i found it on my first playthough.
I remember at least one time the game spawn spiders behind you, but if you're actually looking back you can see them pops into existence, again no teleport effect or anything.
It's just that for the sake of scares and tension, it's not meant to be replayed, not because it's too scary, but because the horror becomes cliche real quick, especially since you have guns, weak, widely inaccurate, or rare as they seem.
didnt get scared tho
