DOOM 3

Play Doom3 at ANY Resolution, 1080p, 2k, 4k, even 8k.
Updated: 13-10-2020
Ever wanted to play Doom 3 at HD or UHD resolutions like 1920x1080 or 4k or even 8k and above.
Doom3 Gameloader is a new application in the works for Doom3 that will help the end-user change the in-game resolution of Doom 3 without using any mods and without changing any config files manually.
My application also has support for loading mods if you want to change the resolution for them as well.

Current Settings that can be changed
  • Game Resolution - select a resolution or create your own custom resolution.
  • Enable Full Screen - Full Screen Mode or Windowed Mode.
  • Enable Player Shadow - Turn on or off the player shadow.
  • Enable Double Vision - Turn on or off the double vision you get when taking damage.
  • Enable Nightmare Mode - If turned on when starting a new game you can select Nightmare.
  • Allow In-Game Console - If turned on you can press ~ to open the games console instead of Ctrl + Alt + ~ (NOTE: ~ for US Keyboard layout, i think it's ^ for some other keyboard layouts).
  • Enable V-Sync - Ensures smoother visuals.
  • Show Frames Per Second - Displays the current Frames Per Second within the game.
  • Skip Intro Video - When enabled the game engine will skip the ID Logo video at the startup of the game.

Changes made from 13-10-2020
  • Keep Aspect - Added a new optional checkbox button to keep the selected aspect ratio when changing resolutions (for example if the user selects 4:3 as their aspect ratio then enters 1920 as the width the height will be entered in as 1440 or if 16:9 is selected then the height will change to 1080 based on the selected aspect ratio and the width).
  • Ultra Widescreen 21:9 - Added support for 21:9 Ultra Widescreen aspect ratio option and works with the Keep Aspect checkbox button.

Upcoming Changes and Ideas
  • FOV Slider - A Field Of View slider to adjust the in-game field of view.
  • Gun Location Options - Used to change where the players gun is location on the screen, X, Y, Z.

Custom Resolutions
Custom Resolutions and preset resolutions.
The end-user can select from a drop-down list of the pre-set in-game resolutions.
The end-user can also set their own custom resolution just by selecting CustomResolution from the drop-down list and then filling in the width and height of the resolution they want (i.e. 1920 as the width and 1080 as the height to play in 1080p).

Support
If you want to support this project the only thing i want from you is a comment about what you think about it so far, and or what extra things the program should do to make things easier or more useful. I will read every one of them and reply when i can. Thanks.

Important Note
Doom3 Gameloader is still in development and not yet released for use to the public. i will keep this page updated with any changes made to the program or information relating to it.
Please check out the video preview to see it in action.

Software Updates
After Doom3 Gameloader is release the end-user can check if the software is up to date from within Doom3 Gameloader to make it even more user friendly.

Why?
I'm making this application because i still see a lot of people asking about how to play Doom 3 using their own resolution.

How it works...
It uses a GUI (Graphical User Interface) so the user can set what settings they want to play with before starting the game.

Gameloader System Requirements
Minimum System Requirements for running Doom3 Gameloader.
  • OperatingSystem: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10. (32 or 64bit)
  • Runtimes: .NET 4.8 or later.
  • OtherNotes: The Resolution you select will be limited by your computers Graphics card and your Monitors Maximum Resolution.

Release Date
I will try my best to release the software for public use soon, The application is still in development at this stage.

I think this is a great idea. I also see an excellent opportunity to ease people into learning the ins and outs of the console, later down the line. (Maybe as an advanced option, that would display a popup detailing what choices edit what. Just a thought. I'm thinking too much about it probably.)

At any rate, anything that makes doom 3 easier to use for newer users is great. Looking forward to a release!

I have been planning on including this in the following ways...
  1. Using tool tips (displays a short information based on what object / control your mouse is hovering over at the time.
  2. A full help file linked to from the application for online or offline help.
  3. I might also see about providing a full step-by-step guide as a PDF (Portable Document File) at a later date.

Thanks for feedback keep it coming.

It takes 20 seconds to alter a config file. I've been playing all of my games at 110° HFOV and 4K (and sometimes at 4x DSR --- i.e. 8K) since I got an OLED55B7A in 2018.

Nevertheless, I appreciate that you are putting work into older games, for those people who aren't too technically inclined.

Update: My computer blue screened and i lost all of my projects including this one. I had a backup but it is not working so i will just have to start over again.
I also had a lot of other things happening in life that got in the middle of my programming,
I will now be able to get something workable out to anyone that want to try it. just keep in mind i have been very busy with other things, so please keep checking back here, and I will try to keep you guys in the loop. and thanks for the support so far.

P.S. Sorry it has taken so long (started back in 2016), time just got away from me big time.
