Doom 3 will not Start Up/Launch At all.

Alright, yesterday I tried to run this game for the first time. It would not start up. Then I looked around and found a mod called "redux"(.95 version, not the beta), set the launch options to loading that and it worked....until it asked for a CD key. https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-3-redux

It took me a bit to get around that and I ended up starting the expansion pack up which skipped the CD key part, then I closed that, started up the base game, and it worked out.

I closed the game yesterday evening and I shut down the computer later that night, only to find that the game was still somehow running.

I tried to run the game this morning. Nothing. I tried to uninstall and reinstall everything. Nothing. I tried to delete the mod and verify the integrity of the game. Nothing. I downloaded that "latest patch" I kept seeing around, the 1.3.1(I think it's called?). Guess what? You guessed it, NOTHING. I even tried clean install and then reinstalling the mod outright, the .95 edition. Whenever I try to start up the game, it simply says running on the steam library and my task manager shows rundll32 and doom3.exe "running".

What is going on? What do I have to do? I already tried setting the exe files to XP compatibility and to run as an administrator.

Playing Doom 3 last 3 days. I have the same problem: I press the launch button but nothing happens. So in windows task manager I shutting the game and try to launch again. After that, it works. But after the close, the game it stays in computers memory and steam thinks that game still workings. There's no way to shut the game so it needs to restart pc. After that, the whole story starts from the beginning: the first launch gives nothing, then I shutting the task in the manager, launch again.

Try deleting the folder "appcache" inside the main Steam installation.
Recently I've been having problems where I launch Steam and it shows the game as running when it's not lol, is not a fix and it's a bit annoying having to do it before I launch Steam but at least is something.

You could also try the source port of Doom 3 called "dhewm3" that one should run the first time no problems, all it needs are your base Doom 3 pk4 files, and it also supports RoE.
