You just download the game from STEAM and it tells you to enter code from the CD when launched? I heard it is some kind of issue known to the gamers and I believe someone knows how to handle this. I use retail version of the game so am unable to test the thing on your terms.

recommended by another user - this worked for me after trying all of the above to no avail. launch the expansion pack first (it didnt ask me for a key - then launch doom 3 again - no key requirement the second time around) i did do the 'verify data'step as well and rebooted everything too - so maybe it was a combination of these three things? I did not uninstall and re install (you shouldnt need to do that step anyways as verifying data should bypass that step if there was bad packet data going on there).

So verify data, it will find one item that it will re downlaod automatically (did for me) restart steam - load the expansion pack first (no key required) and then quit and re load doom 3 (no key will be requested if it has worked)

on a side note - Steam could you not have just removed the key requirement from the digital download product? this took me 30 mins to fix when i was really hoping to be in the old comm hub on Mars instead! "the Devil is real.... I know..... because I built his cage!!...."

On a sidenote, it is funny that any game sold on STEAM can have technical issues of this kind.
