So I found a bit of a workaround. The launcher initially had the resolution set to 1920x1080.
These were default under video settings in the launcher.
When trying to launch I would get a message that Indy3d.exe has stopped working.
So on a whim I decided to try lowering the resolution.
I started with 800x600 which is a fairly old resolution. To my surprise the game launched. From there I found I could adjust the resolution in game, however doing do messed up elements of the hud. The navigation bar in particular ended up being clipped across the bottom.
I also came across a gamefaqs post from 6 years ago...
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/89714-indiana-jones-and-the-infernal-machine/63438350
The poster discussed how to get the game running on windows 64 bit systems. He of course discusses copying files from the discs which doesn't apply to us since we have a digital copy from Steam.
What he does note however is choosing a resolution of....
of 1024x768 or below (higher and your menu's in game such as inventory are half missing)
However choosing this resolution in the launcher resulted in a crash. So I again selected 800x600.
Upon entering the game and going into the display options it indicated the resolution was 640x480. So I set it to the aforementioned 1024x768 and applied and it seems to work ok.
I finished the first mission. So thought I would further add that, once you have saved a game file? You can load that file from the launcher and it should launch. However it doesn't seem to 'remember' your settings upon launching the game so you will probably have to go into the display options again to set the resolution again manually. I was able to advance to the 2nd chapter in this manner.
The game runs great in 1920x1080 if you buy the GOG version. This Steam version is terrible.
As a bit of an update? I bought the GOG Galaxy version as well and that version was also crashing for me. I found it odd so I browsed the GOG forums. Some of the users noted issues with headsets. I had my USB dongle for my wireless headset plugged in. So...I unplugged it, tried again and the game launched at 1920x1080.
So just something to bear in mind if you have issues with the GOG version if you have a head set plugged in!
I don't have any headsets plugged in, but quite a few USB ports are plugged in the back of my machine for keyboard, mouse etc. I don't know if that would be an issue?
1) Set resolution to 1024x768 in the launcher
2) Close Launcher
3) Unplug any controller peripherals (for me it was xbox 360)
4) Start launcher
5) Go to control configurations
6) Disable Controllers
7) Start game
Give this a shot and let me know if it works for you.
