After all every one who's read a single vn knows that working your butt off for the sake of society and spinelessly bowing down before any kind of authority is the only proper way to live, right? So you gotta call out the baddies^^.
They don't call Maple "Miss American Curl" for no reason and of course the murica breed cat girl is the one selfishly following her dream while the others cover for her. ^^
Maple is the arrogant blond prancing around like a spoiled princess, because merica, so naturally they spent pretty much a hole volume on Natsuki, the only cat girl with a japanese name, showing what a responsible, hard working, caring and loving onee-chan is hiding behind that girls mask...
And it actually kinda works, Natsuki is my #2 right after Vanilla.
But I can't really dislike Maple, she's just the victim of her silly writers trying to please their propaganda and censorship overlords. Take away the unnecessary clichee bits and she's just as loveable.
You mean Azuki, right? (Hint for remembering the catgirls' names: they're all the names of confection ingredients. Azuki are sweet red beans.)
Not sure what you mean by this. Isn't it just a cultural stereotype that they like to use for entertainment? I don't think anyone is dictating to the writers that they should use them, unless it's perhaps the fans. Do fans count as overlords? 😁
Yes, Azuki. Guess I mixed up my VNs there^^.
Well, maybe I went a bit far there, ... but I do think that a lot of opinions, cultural viewpoints and even political agendas are hidden behind the casual and seemingly humorous use of these stereotypes. And Japan is quite diverse in many regards. Some enjoy exchanges with foreigners and welcome western influences while others hate everything not 110% japanese. On one end of Tokyo a progressive politician is pushing for equal rights for same-sex couples while on another ppl are screaming bloody murder because a hetero couple dared to hold hands in public.
Everything that strays from proven patterns could backfire horribly, no one is willing to take the risk and so the same old stereotypes get used again and again and again. Even if it's indirect and kind of self inflicted, but isn't that some kind of cencorship as well?
Ok, it's getting a bit esoteric now and actually goes way beyond the thought behind the original statement. Was there even a thought? Maybe I just enjoyed the sound of my typing^^. I don't know.
But now that I think about it: Fans in japan are probably THE overlords.
Otherwise we wouldn't get tortured with that many harem settings and open ended stories.
Just imagine the outcry of 20y/o virgins had they made Nanoha and Fate an official couple and not besties who've shared a bed since they were teens. Suicides, burning piles of merch in every street...^^ They're a strange ppl.
dont bully maple ...also when do we feck the little sister
but yes, Maple is a stuck up little ♥♥♥♥ at times. so glad i ♥♥♥♥♥♥ her into submission in the 3rd and 4th games.
