21:9 Aspect ratio and portion of map visible...
So, I've previously expressed dismay about how little of the map can be seen when zoomed fully out. After watching some youtube video I'm thinking my problem might be due to the 21:9 aspect ratio (2560x1080) I'm running on my wide monitor.

I really prefer the wide monitor for other applications as I can use it like a dual monitor when I want to by having windows open side by side, or as a single monitor for gaming.

So my question is the portion of the map being displayed based purely on the aspect ratio, or is it based on the number of horizontal pixels? Like if I were to acquire a monitor that could run 3440x1440 or even 5120x2160 would that allow a bigger portion of the vertical of the map to be visible at one time ( less up & down scrolling ) or would it be the same because of the aspect ratio?

Looking for a solution because as it stands I barely see maybe 60% of the map vertically at any given time and on the youtube videos where they have a 'less wide' screen it seems like they're seeing 80% or even more of the vertical length of the map without scrolling. I just really miss the ability to stand back and stare at the whole board like I could do when playing the board game.

thanks.

Ok, Running in Windowed mode picking a 'less wide' resolution lets me see most of the board. But still curious if a 3440x1440 resolution would help, or if the game just doesn't like the 21:9 ratio.

thanks.

The issue is the game won't display the map zoomed out any wider than the 'full width' of the world. In other words it won't let you zoom out so much that it displays the same territory twice at the same time on both the right hand edge and the left hand edge of the display. This is the constraint that determines all of this. It means if your display ratio is 'squashed' down into a letterbox shape, you are constrained to seeing a correspondingly 'short' view of the map.
If you narrow the sides of the display window down in windowed mode into a more square-ish shape it is possible to zoom out and see all of the top edge and bottom edge of the playable area of the map (though not all of the white space) at the same time. So basically to see the maximum map area in one go, you need to set your display window to be the same aspect ratio as the playable map area, and then you really can see a full view of the entire map.

Thanks, that's workable. I'll have to get used to using the arrow keys to scroll the map, I think, since using the mouse is kind of fiddly with windowed mode. I do wish they'd just allow some black bars on the sides, but this definitely lets me do what I have been wanting. Thank you!

Eh after playing with it for a bit, I realized that if you alter the size of the game window to make the entire vertical visible at one time, then you no longer can see the entire horizontal . So it just shifts the problem.

Ah well, maybe one day they'll allow us to zoom out farther and just put some black bars on the sides of the monitor.

Hmm, if you get the aspect ratio right the only bits of the map you can't see are a band along the bottom that I don't think is actually used to display anything, and the area under the "Follow Player" button in the bottom-right corner. The issue is the row of territories along the bottom of the map are much taller than they need to be for what they display.

Er, well, I'll try again later.

I keep hoping they'll just change the zoom feature. Maybe it's a hard thing to do, but sure seems like it would be a matter of changing one parameter.
