I think there should be a game play setting where there are no pre-set teams, and players need to create alliances on their own. Thoughts?

Imagine the backstabbing lol. I t really wouldn't be A&A though then. I remember playing a game called Colonial Conquest in the 90's in which that is exactly what we did.
