If you are encountering repeated issues of the map background becoming black (but you can still see the units and play the game), we suggest reducing the Map Resolution down to its lowest setting, and barring that, switching the game to Legacy Mode.
The background image of the map is a fairly high resolution, lossless image that can strain lower-end hardware, especially integrated video cards often found on non-gaming laptops. By adjusting these settings, you will load in a smaller, more compressed version of the map. To make these adjustments:
Settings -> Graphics -> Map Resolution -> Low
To enable Legacy Mode:
Settings -> Graphics -> Legacy Mode -> On
This may also help users who are encountering the "Black screen" issue, but I don't want to make any promises there, as we have yet to really track down what's going on there (we know whats happening, but not why its happening as we haven't been able to reproduce it in house with a variety of hardware configurations). We have changes that we'll be deploying with our next patch that will hopefully continue to help players across a variety of hardware configurations run into these issues less.
Cheers,
Cody Ouimet
