Axis & Allies 1942 Online

Axis & Allies 1942 Online

Picked the wrong version of Axis & Allies to make.
Let me start off by saying that Axis & Allies is my all time favorite game. I've been playing for over 30 years and probably have played over a thousand games so far. I own every version of the board game ever released, have played in many tournaments, logged hundreds of hours on the Iron Blitz PC version, and now regularly play the Avalon Hill Anniversary Edition with my gaming group. If you were going to take the time to make a modern Axis & Allies video game why on earth wouldn't you start with the Anniversary Edition? 2nd edition is probably the worst of all the board game releases. Let me help you....1) Make the base game the Anniversary Edition with both 1941 & 1942 setup options, this adds Italy as a playable nation and corrects any issues 2nd edition had, adds more spaces to the board for more strategic options, more research & development, China rule restrictions, fine tuned Submarine rules, & more 2) Then you can add the boards (maps) from all previous versions of the game to starting options. Classic, Europe, D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, Pacific, Guadalcanal, even WW1 1914, & Zombies!, each with a couple different setup options. BOOM!!! You just made Axis & Allies heaven for us all!!! 3) I've read in some of the early access reviews that the developers have decided to not allow you to select your own casualties in favor of one of five automated systems you select in the settings. This is a terrible decision. Yes there are rule restrictions to how you have to select casualties like for example...transports have to be selected last, but I am very doubtful your presets for deciding casualties will be optimal in EVERY situation. My biggest suggestion to the developers is, if you want this game to truly be something special, use ALL that Axis & Allies has to offer since its 1984 release or it'll just be another unnoteworthy remake.....I am not impressed what I see so far, not in the least.

Well, that sucks, licensing rights always seem to stop things from being great. I'm a big fan of Beamdog's work on all the D&D Enhanced Editions so I hope you surprise me when the final release rolls around, however so far it does seem like just another blah version of the game...

I would not sit down and play this rule set in a live game. I do think that it is very well suited for multiplayer internet game a lot of the trade offs seem to be made to quicken the pace of the game and too reduce over all army sizes while I have only played solo games at this point ( trying to work out timing with my brother to be first online game ) i can see how the changes made to the rules for version of the game can translate to a very enjoyable time for head to head online matches

I agree partly with the OP, it's not the greatest version to start with. I see other rule sets and games as probably coming via DLC and will come depending on how popular the game is and if it's viable to continue to support it.
