I finished the game :') (SPOILERS)
Well uh, when i got this game, i expected the emotional damage to be from my babies dying and seeing the earth destroyed. And while yes, i was distraught when my two pups Rosade and Angel starved -- i was left with one pup, Cinder, and clinging to the hope that i could get my lost pup Katniss back -- the end is what killed me. I was wanting to replay the game, (and i still want to at some point) but the ending seriously devastated me. I haven't genuinely cried over a video game since Paws or The First Tree. Based off what some other people were saying about the ending, it seemed like at least SOMETHING decent happened. I tend to be positive about these kind of things, so i guessed things wouldn't be too terrible.
But it's a game about foxes and fox cubs. I was horribly wrong.
Molly died, which honestly saddened me, because one of my cubs who died climbed up a tree and found her. And the poor Scavenger -- he kidnapped my cub, but after looking through screenshots and figuring out what happened based off the scents, i feel kinda bad for the guy.
Then night 30 came along with the flood. I thought something about how heavy the rain had been was kind of strange before, but i forgot about it when i rescued baby Katniss. My little cubs jumped into the boat before Amber (my fox) could. I legit thought she drowned, but...the river dried up? I could see humans all walking in a line, heading somewhere. I could hear my pups yelping and found them in a pond. I grabbed them and then went on my way. We passed by a large ship, where the dang furrier was. We made it past alright, so i kind of let my guard down. I was feeling hopeful when we saw more bushes and even trees, and of course, that's when i saw the furrier pop up from somewhere.
I was able to run so i hurried to the fence. And i was shot. I thought it was just my flank, but when we came to the other side, i saw it had gotten to Amber's stomach. After walking along the path, i finally collapsed, and Cinder kept trying to wake Amber up. Amber raised her head and kind of smiled. And then she died. SHE DIEDDFGSZS,AK. THE PUPPIES' REACTIONS WHERE HEARTBREAKING ;w;;;
After the credits, in which i cried the whole time through, the pups started to keep going. It went black, and i heard a noise that almost sounded like scratching or clicking. No idea what that was (if you have an idea please let me know). And it took me to the main menu.
I do have a couple of questions -- first, are there multiple endings, if not at least just one alternate ending? And uh, is anyone else clinging to the hope that the pups somehow manage to survive on their own? qwq

The clicking sound is a Geiger counter, which means that there is high radiation in this area, there was a dilapidated nuclear power plant in the background.

I mean, technically we don't know that, especially if your pups have all their skills and have the badger with them. The species as a whole may not survive, but you don't need to be so grim.

Shoot, is that how Molly died? Exposure to radiation made her sick or something? Also, how did it not effect the foxes? I can assume thats why people were wearing the gas masks.

Most likely, but behind the fence, as I understand it, the territory is more dangerous, because. there is even a sign on it, dangerous.
If you look at the realistic side, nothing good will happen with the foxes, but for myself I prefer to think that everything will be fine.

ah, we all love the furrier. maybe if he hadn't shot you everything would have been fine.

As for "Alternate Endings", if you rescue the badger and then return her cub to her later on, you'll see her in the wasteland, won't spoil what she's doing there, but once the vixen dies she adopts your kits, which implies she takes care of them at least for the foreseeable future.

As for Molly, my theory is that she develops a form of pneumonia which results in her death, as evident by her coughing up blood. What its from I'm not 100% certain on, but its likely due to pollutants in the air.

As for the Furrier, he can go and suck a cactus.

(SPOILERS) I love how the badger does absolutely NOTHING in the end scene. If you don't save her you die when your halfway through the hole you get shot, same if she is there although it looks like she is digging from the other side. (So shouldn't you be able to get through quicker and not get shot?...) So her being alive REALLY didn't change the mother's fate but it may save the cubs. I doubt the game would have given us the adoption ending if the cubs didn't survive.

Animals do survive radiation better. There is thriving wildlife at Chernobyl. Fast growth and high birth rates make for better survival. Humans grow up slow, produce slowly and care about their longevity.
