What do y'all think of the ending???
I cried! After I let the Scavenger pet me I wasn't sure how much more could be told in Endling's story. Then the flood happened, next the drought, and then... yeah, the death of mama fox and your pups scurry off to start their lives.

The Geiger counter clicks weren't terribly reassuring, as was the *only* nature preserve-esque area in the entire end of the game right next to a nuclear power plant. That - I wonder - had either melted down, was going to melt down, or somehow still active without human intervention.

I wonder how the pups survived there. I wonder who they'll end up mating with. What would their genetic pool look like? I worry for their future, as uncertain as it was after all you did for them with your final 30 days.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it made me cry and hurt me like only a video game of this caliber could do *sobs*

wow :steamsad: haven't played but was sad by the vids,
and then reading all this depressed me even more.
Because it's simply too real.
I so glad a GameDev took the time and effort and risk to create this.
It's a lesson everyone should hear, to really treasure and appreciate the little is left...

Well, headcanon for me is that there are two male and two female kits, and the badger will care for the kits (which is heavily implied). So if you befriended the badger AND rescued all 4 kits, they have a chance. Just because it is a nuclear disaster area doesn't mean it is unlivable. You are clearly pretty far from the plant, and it is not clear how long ago this disaster was. It could be in condition similar to the CEZ, in which case it would be perfectly survivable for animal life. Yes sure they may develop cancer over time, and it may adversely affect their lifespan. However they only need to survive 1 + 2/3 years per generation, so as long as all four kits are virile/fertile they again have a chance.
To offset the adverse affects of radiation, it should be noted that mange (one of the primary death factors for foxes) is likely extinct due to low population density, as well as rabies, and humans are likely to leave them alone given their location.

Is their survival guaranteed? No, of course not. But they certainly have a good chance. Remember that the Red Fox is the most adaptable carnivore on the planet, capable of surviving the tundras of Canada and Russia to the harsh heat of the Australian continent.

It's sad indeed. :meatytears:
I wish there was another less tragic but a 'happy' ending.

Anyway, I think the mother badger will take care of the cubs.

I saw mother and baby badger hanging from a pole outside of one of the houses in the game...so I don't think so :(

If you do their side quests like helping the young badger and such, the mother badger will be there at the end. :OrangeSurprise:

Y'know after some second thoughts maybe the Geiger counter clicking at the end may not be as doomer as we all thought it was.

Kyle Hill did a video on the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone last year or so and he even did an entire episode on the dogs themselves. Turns out the dogs are totally fine! They're Hella radioactive and might come with some problems, but the dogs themselves are... otherwise totally fine. The fox pups will have ample food and safety from humans, taken care of by other animals. I'm sure the red fox as we know it will probably die off - but a new race of foxes/canids will arise from their life in the new Zone.

It's inspiring, actually, that the mother fox may not have made it to the end, but brought her cubs there to thrive and be safe.
