What do y'all think of the ending???
I cried! After I let the Scavenger pet me I wasn't sure how much more could be told in Endling's story. Then the flood happened, next the drought, and then... yeah, the death of mama fox and your pups scurry off to start their lives.

The Geiger counter clicks weren't terribly reassuring, as was the *only* nature preserve-esque area in the entire end of the game right next to a nuclear power plant. That - I wonder - had either melted down, was going to melt down, or somehow still active without human intervention.

I wonder how the pups survived there. I wonder who they'll end up mating with. What would their genetic pool look like? I worry for their future, as uncertain as it was after all you did for them with your final 30 days.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it made me cry and hurt me like only a video game of this caliber could do *sobs*

It's sad indeed. :meatytears:
I wish there was another less tragic but a 'happy' ending.

Anyway, I think the mother badger will take care of the cubs.

My theory is that the broken nuclear powerplant is here to explain us why humans abandoned this territory - it simply too radioactive by their standarts, so radiation is the only thing capable of protecting animals against the human greed (like it happened in the Chernobyl zone where even domestic livestock adapted to live without humans)...
From other side - it shows us that even without humans animal can suffer and die to radiation sickness so no matter how hard foxy tried to survive and save the babies - there is no chance their species will survive...
So it depends on what do you prefer to believe more, but since the game idea is that the worst enemy to every animal are humans - having no humans around guarantees surviving (but since we are, as the foxy, are dead at the end - we will never find out since the game is not about feeling happy for foxies, but to feel bad for them).

the cubs would die either way. they would starve before they died of radiation poisoning.

possible. when a animal loses a baby or cub or whatever they call their species, its not uncommon for them to take care of other animals that had lost their mother, so this could happen. but its not canon, as if you dont save the badger from the trap, the badger wont be there in the ending.

I haven't played it, but it sounds horribly depressing.

it is! *sob*

The fact that ALL you go through - three different dens, a scavenger who kidnapped your child, and being chased down by a dude after your pelt, surviving a flood, AND drought - that you get shot in the back of the leg and die in the most natural environment you were likely born and raised into.

It's horribly dark. And very, very sad lmao

I started a new game over almost right away just so I could spend one last time with my babies, and of course mama fox herself<33

Don't say so about my babies! I taught them well and they will outlive everyone >;[

I mean the acheivement for learning all the cub skills is "for a better tommorow" (may not be the exact words) so maybe they will get a better ending then what we see?

people say this achievment doesn't change the ending :emocompy:

It doesn't, but maybe it means something
BlackNyasher Aug 3, 2022 @ 5:25am
You can sleep better knowing your foxies are the most capable of surviving as it ever been possible :microraptor:

But since foxymom is dead she will never find out, story of the last fox ends here :emocompy:
Bee Aug 3, 2022 @ 6:59am
You know, I think that is what I like about the ending so much. The story of the last fox did end, because when she died, she didn't die as the last fox. And she died with the knowledge that her species at least survived a generation after her. That's all she could really do in the end.

Yeee :pet:

It's said they learn those skills because they'll need them to survive, so we might guess they'll live yet for some time. The mom badger might adopt them, we've seen it happen and they've become friends.

It's implied indeed that there was a nuclear disaster there, and that's why there's the fence and that forest wasn't destroyed, because humans don't wanna go there. So they end up free from humans but might eventually die from cancer.
Hikari.ws Aug 8, 2022 @ 3:59pm
There can't be a happy ending on this game. It's too late, biology balance is alrdy destroyed and most species still alive are close to extinction.

If it's a game where choices matter to multiple ending, the game'd have to had started many years before so humans could change their action. It's alrdy too late.
