And you can restart the day if it went too disastrous and try it again.
Foxies learn skills when you visiting special areas in the world, but they are somewhat hidden so you need to watch everywhere to find such area (nothing special is required for it - you just go and suddenly some mini-event happen with one of your cubs). There is an especially hard period somewhere in the first half of the game when there is barely any food left, so as long as you cannot snif any "clues" you better go home as soon as possible to not waste the "energy", but later in the game it will become much easier with all areas open.
P.S.- if your cubs are fully fed you can keep carrying food in your maw to feed them when they will be hungry, and you can bring food into the shelter for sleep and getting a cuter version of sleep scene.
In any way, the game is aimed to have a depressing feeling because it's about extinction, and they might die. So there needs to be some challenge, the game can't be easy as a walk in the park. The forest is dying and it's expected to be hard to find food. If that's what the challenge brought to u and u wanna keep immersed, sadly just have one more die :(
I haven't replayed it yet but I guess there's an ending for when all cups die, so at the worst u'll watch that ending. Then replay to watch another.
