Also I'm using XBOX360 controller as well and I do not have any issues in SRW 30.
I even swapped button mapping for B to select/confirm and A to cancel and both the game and controller work the way it should.
The issue have to be somewhere else, not within the game or one of it's update.
Right, so first point, I had to "Frankenstein" my controller back to some semblance of functionality, which required me to specifically turn my controller into a second keyboard+mouse device, and in the first place, I just don't enjoy using a mouse or looking at that giant cursor in SRW 30. I have three USB slots, so headphone, controller, and mouse is my typical setup if I don't have to worry about a game prioritizing the mouse moving ever so slightly, but this game will drive me mad if I move the mouse less than a centimeter.
Second, if:
The only fixed variable is that my controller is sometimes very FUBAR when:
1. I play some (though not all) of my Bandai-Namco games,
2. regardless of which controller type,
3. Steam Input works for every other one of my games, and
4. the timing coincides with a particular SRW 30 update,...
I shouldn't have to spell this out, but the game update did it. Nothing else could have done it, I have only seen it replicated in one other B-N game that no longer receives support, and which used to actually function with my controller as well.
P.S. Since you're using an XBox controller of some sort, could you please make a community user copy of the functioning setup you have and then send it to me? Your little changes match what I'd have used anyway, and I have found that overwriting community control schemes will fix this issue for other games that I would other have needed to "Frankenstein" my controller to the keyboard for. At the moment, no one has made one for community usage, and it would likely fix this issue in a heartbeat.
A friend told me that if you turn the gamepad on then press & hold the Home Button for several seconds it will change how Windows sees/emulates it. After I did that it showed as a 360 type gamepad in devices and printers and worked fine.
You can't have any other gamepads plugged in, and can't have a game running for this to work from what I experienced trying this. Not sure if that's just something related to my specific gamepad or if might work for you too, but it's something you might try.
I tried that after I saw your post. Sadly, it didn't do anything.
