If you don't like their characterization though, they're kinda hit or miss even in the show. I liked them a fair bit but can understand if people find them annoying/grating since they do tend to follow very specific tropes.
Their units aren't half bad.
The pilots come off like a bad copy of the Aestivalis-pilots from Nadesico to me tho.
Cause as Units they're pretty decent. I think they're all better than Nadesico units for comparison, except maybe the Black Salena. Their critical health barriers means you can turn them into pretty tough units to take down if you put some work in.
Character-wise, I hate all of them except Tamaki.
Red V is great and Kei's special ability is really good.
Animations can just be turned off. In fact, it's a must if you don't want missions to drag.
They're pretty low at the get go, but as with every unit in the game, just put some resource into them and they can still be your ace if that's what you want
The V-Gundams and the Gun Blaster units are actually pretty okay IMO, even without upgrades they can hold their own against other grunts, thanks to their good selection of spirits.
