First off, I'm REALLY NOT into girl x girl, so obviously, not romancing Ari.
Now, for the first game, well, I'll admit I wasn't attracted to anyone at the beginning. I'm not into western artstyle, so it was hard to outright like how the characters looked (needed an adaptation time so my brain could "translate" the artstyle and visualise how the characters would look in a more eastern style and be able to enjoy them). Now, of course, aesthetics were one thing, but I didn't feel outright compelled to the guys either. It was actually one of the reasons I stalled so much before finally playing the game.
Once I've started playing, I quickly got used to the characters and how the game looks too. Once used to the artstyle, well, I think both guys are attractive in different ways. But well, looks aside, I thought I'd like Raze more - so in my first playthrough I've decided to romance Brash. And well, sure, I like both guys in the end, but oh dear... I didn't expect to like Brash so much. I like him waaaay more than Raze, to be honest. I fell in love with everything about him, from his looks to his personality, and his voice, well, really, everything.
I still did Raze's romantic path in the first game though.
But in Hunters. Well, obviously my first playthrough was with Brash. I waited too long for this game to make it "worse" by playing with Raze or one of the new options and making myself miserable waiting even more for Brash.
I finished the first playthrough and I'm even more in love with him - I didn't even think it was possible. I love his dilemnas and insecurities about a romantic relationships, and how he's distrustful at the beginning because of that. Playing the two games one after another (I've replayed the first Demonheart before playing Hunters) and having the entirety of his romance at once was such a treat. I love how it progresses. They've come such a long way when you think back to their meeting and starting steps, and look at the finale after that. His romance was one of the only times ever I think I literally squealed from happiness when reaching the end of the game. And, perfectly fitting my mood, Bright too can basically squeal from happiness and excitement at the end. That was so sweet. Now, I don't know how the romance plays out if you have an evil Bright, and I don't really care - I always play as "saint".
I don't know if I'll do Raze's romance too, to be honest. I like him a lot, and I liked his romance ending in the first game, but I feel like while he's possessive, he's also fine as long as Bright is his friend and loves him, without it having to be romantic love. Brash on the other hand is really in love with Bright, and madly at that, and I would feel so guilty if I romanced Raze. It's very easy for me to feel that guilt in games and end up doing only one or two routes out of many more. So yeah, a playthrough with Brash as love interest and Raze and Ari as friends is the best to me.
Raze as romantic companion would be the second option, but as stated before, not sure I'll ever do that in Hunters. I'd probably drown in guilt the second Brash rejoins the party, and start the game over to "correct" my choice haha.
Now, the new options. Mister Lawful-Douche-Bard and Thayn. I hate their guts. Well no, I dislike Thayn, and I hate Lawful-Douche-Bard. So he's so NOT getting any attention from me... EVER. He's everything I hate. Really.... really.... reaaaaally hate.
Honestly, I would have rather liked having the option to romance Mark (that would have been in the first game, obviously). And I mean, truly romance, not being able to be friendly with him and that's it. I really like Mark so that's not a surprise, truly. I was so mad and sad and genuinely upset when the Feline warriors in the old brothel told Bright Mark is dead...
I feel like that's all. I can't really give you a good ranking because of my peculiar views on that, but well, I guess it can be an interesting opinion non the less.
Sorry for the loooong answer haha - I get quite heated up about this game.
You're right about Thayn and the Bard though. Let them eat dust - I don't care. I already cringed so hard trying to do the bard and the Thayn route will straight up kill me internally, so I'm not sure if I'll do it at all.
Well, what's cool about Brash is that he loves Bright no matter what, and from what I've gathered, their dynamics will be different depending on the type of Bright each person plays, but in the end, they always have such a great chemistry going on between them, if you choose to romance him.
If you play as evil Bright, well, then the two would be somewhat alike and be perfectly in sync with each other.
I play as saint Bright on the other hand, and it's so so sweet, because that, well, he likes it too - a lot. It counterbalances his agressiveness and general defiance, and they become really complementary. When starting the original game, I couldn't expect it would become so sweet haha.
I prefer an evil/defiant Bright for Brash because I'm a wild little kitten, beware of my claws, and evil/tactful Bright for Raze because I like pulling his goat leg. The interactions are gold, I love. I was even able to intimidate Brash into apologizing once. It was refreshing.
I'd probably consider playing a saint Bright romance with Brash, if, like the first one, this game had a bit more dialogue options with "Sir" in them. That was like a whole different mood.
As for the reasons I like Brash so much, well, a guy that can cut other people in half with his sword is already quite hot AND he's self-cleaning. Because he's a knight, he has discipline. What's not to like? That's the ideal man, right there.
But I was a bit disappointed, that we had barely possibilities to speak with Raze, compared to Brash and Ari. It feels a bit rushed. And I think at the end of chapter 4 of the first game Raze sayed something like he wants us to reach a higher level of relationship than just becoming his bride. I don't know it anymore. But the ending in hunters with Raze feels a bit unfinished. Nevertheless I really like this second game (and really hope that we get some artworks in the future ♡)
Or at least the alternative to stroll with him through Ravage somehow in the prologue. This way Brash or Ari feel just more like a natural choice. (Though I haven't tried Ari yet. I'd be fine with her route but I'm too straight for enjoying it properly I guess)
I also feel like we don't get enough Raze in Hunters. Since I probably like his friendship with Bright more than the love option, I don't mind THAT much, but that's one more reason for me to stick with romancing Brash and only Brash in any playthrough I'll do in the future.
I think demonhearts can't die of old age. They do age and at some point they go full crazy about living that long, but they can't die a natural death - only if you kill off the heart or body for good. The difference to a demon spawn is that it does not matter how old they are, they won't get crazy, plus they're literally indestructible.
The demonheart they were talking about became crazy, but that's normal considering they were a living skeleton so yeah, I don't think the crazyness is guaranteed if they keep their body.
So maybe some powerful demonhearts can live longer than humans or even become immortal under some circumstances. Maybe even all demonhearts should live as long, but most are killed or kill themselves before.
If that's possible, then they'd "only" have to find a solution for Bright to stay as she is, instead of getting old and then becoming a skeleton. But that would already be half the work done.
I really hope there will be an answer to this. Otherwise it would be a very sad romance.
Yeah, I think so too. And it makes me angry so many otome and BL games do romances with at least one love interest who lives so much longer than the main character, but they don't adress the problem AT ALL. Sure, some games talk about it, and either find a way to "solve" the problem one way or another (ideally), or at least the characters have a serious talk about that and discuss how things will evolve and make sure the one who'll live longer is okay with that (not so ideal, but at least they know what they're doing). But sadly, most treat that just as any other love interest and never mention the issue.
Of course, this is mere theory, but a possibility non the less. That would be a very simple answer, but at the same time it would require mental fortitude to succeed.
Except that, in Raze's ending, he's happy to live his life with Bright but pretty upset that it won't last, since he's immortal and Bright isn't. Fooling herself into staying alive and young doesn't seem like a possibility.
