If you've READ the books, I think it depends, but probably still risky. Only played a short time, but there are a few things from the most recent game of thrones seasons that technically go ahead of the books. Thing is though a lot of these are massive divergences from the books and I'm not sure the books will go the same way.
There are a few things that'll likely be spoilt I'm pretty certain are planned for the books, not least of all seeing who is still around and/or who is not. But if you're in any way invested in the ASOIAF communities online you'll probably consider a few events assumed book canon already despite them having not happened yet in the books. It's hard to relate though I pretty much considered watching the show a must to avoid being spoilt by some inconsiderate tweet etc, better to have the books spoilt by an entertaining show than someone blabbing about said show. If you're still reading them though I'd say it'd definitely be a risky thing to do.
Anyway, thanks for the reply.
I'll keep thinking about it. Maybe I should see the TV show, but I don't like being messed with two paralel storylines.
Sigh! First world problems...
I have read all the books multiple times and upto the end of the final book they are pretty much identical, except the books contain stuff that the shows ignored, left out, as not hugely relevant to the main plot. Just like LotR and Hobbit films did, leave stuff out that was in the books.
I'd say no. There are events in the show that haven't happened in the books (yet) but are seemingly referenced at least a little in the game.
