How do I lvl up in this game

as stated above I do not know how to lvl up I slay mob after mob and nothing

You can't level up in this game. Your power comes from your weapons, armor, and skills you can learn.

WHY!!!!!???? I would love to level up (Cry). I just bought this game and have not played far. But per the video demo it looks like the further you go the monster level goes up and we cant level up....only survive based on out power from our weapons, armor, and skills? I think I would still like to level up.
