False. Its possible to play solo, local coop or ONLINE multiplayer with latejoin allowed to.

And this game have "Remote Play Together" that means that after launch it, open the steam overlay, select a friend online and send him/her the request to play, select what input he/she can use, and if he/she accept it, will connect as a stream to your machine and can play together besides he/she have the game or not.
