Some Gripes About Conquest Mode
I'd like to start off by saying I've 100%ed the game, and the Campaign is pretty solid. Conquest on the other hand, is a totally different animal. Conquest, while certainly playable, definitely has a few problems. This thread will basically just be my list of annoying things I noticed while playing Conquest.

In conquest, the #1 cause of death is crashing, not getting shot down by missiles. And I don't mean crashing into terrain, I'm talking about crashing into other aircraft.

The way large aircraft like transports, AWACS, and bombers turn like they're trying to engage you is actually one of the most annoying things in the world in Conquest. They take at least 3 Standard Missiles to destroy, and they actively go out of their way to turn towards you no matter which direction you're coming from, in front, behind, above, below, etc. You can definitely crash into one if they don't go down fast enough while you're trying to hit them with guns, or if you're not expecting it while making a turn. Admittedly most of this was just miscalculations on my part, but this would be easily solvable if that behavior was not part of their AI. I never had this problem in the Campaign or in Ace Combat. This was only really an issue for me during my first few times playing conquest since I wasn't expecting it, but it's still annoying nonetheless to see a transport plane pull a 180 or go completely nose-down to try and ram you.

At high alert levels, the amount of enemies that spawn is insane, to the point where unless it's a score attack mission, it starts to become not fun. Sure they payout is great, but the missions take forever to finish unless it's a score attack mission. Airships will also spawn in greater numbers at high alert levels, which becomes another annoyance when the sky is already super crowded. At this point, you're not worried about being shot down by the endless barrage of missiles, you're worried about accidentally crashing into a random airship on top of the random transport aircraft that still spawn in, while evading the endless barrage of missiles. Also expect frame rate drops.

Even when you have allies on your team, they tend to get stuck fighting the enemies that spawn in closest to your starting point in that mission. Meanwhile, the objectives you have to destroy are located all over the map. Not only that, but when you have to go off on your own to deal with these targets because your allies are occupied with the first enemies that spawned in, more enemies will spawn in along the way that make dealing with the priority targets more difficult. To my knowledge, there's no limit to the amount of regular enemies that will spawn in as long as you keep destroying them. This is especially annoying at high alert levels where your entire screen can be filled with enemies and the missile alerts never stop coming.

Another issue is flying through clouds to attack targets at low altitude or on the ground. Flying in the clouds can get really disorienting in 3rd person, and it becomes hard to tell up from down. It also doesn't help that flying through clouds causes the screen to shake, making it hard to read if your altitude is going up or down. Sometimes you emerge from the clouds only to see that you're flying straight into the side of a mountain with no time to turn. This is mainly an issue because Project Wingman doesn't have the feature that automatically levels out your plane like in Ace Combat, which made it easy to pull up in the correct direction.

Yeah, it's pretty terrible. Supposedly the patch after next patch is going to make it less terrible. Though that's probably not going to release until 2030, so have fun waiting.

I made a post about this a few days ago. Literally all of my runs have ended with me crashing into a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FC-8.

Was just at lvl 29. Crashed into another FC-8. This sh*t is gonna make me pull my hair out.

This time I remembered to try killing the game in task manager as soon as I died so It wouldn't be able to execute the command to delete the save, but unfortunately that cheese method doesn't work. Looks like it either deletes your save AS SOON as you die, or it deletes your save before the battle begins and doesn't make a new save until you get mission completion which prevents the tried and tested task manager cheese.

Eh, my problem could be worse. At least I'm not stuck with a small pp like some people.

While he's being rather annoying about it, technically he's not wrong. Crashing into FC-8s that don't fly like they're supposed to is a problem with the game, and it shouldn't be there. However, not being able to get a do-over in a gamemode that is for better or worse designed so that you have to start over again when you die, is your own problem. If you're just trying to reach Alert 30 and nothing else, just play Conquest with the PW MK. I on Mercenary with 4x Alert Multiplier and you'll probably reach it in the first mission.

As for Goatse, you don't seem to be actually contributing anything to this conversation, so next time come back with something actually worth discussing.

Like I said, it's a behavior that transport planes shouldn't have. Being caught off guard by maneuvers that no transport plane would or should ever be performing is pretty understandable, especially those times when they come in out of nowhere. But yes, you should watch where you're flying going forward.

If it’s so common, that means you can expect it and act accordingly.

Sure, the ideal scenario would be for this behavior to be changed. But in the meantime, constantly losing to such a thing when you are actually aware of it sounds like you’re being careless.

Don’t take it the wrong way. It’s just an honest observation.

That said, I just started playing so it might be quite a lot worse than what I think it is. Perhaps the desciption you guys make of it dosent suffice to describe how bad it is.

I guess I’ll know soon enough.

Why did you even bother posting in this thread then???
