Whoever made the 'no checkpoints' decision...
It's just... inexcusable.

It's not fun gameplay: it's just obnoxious.

There is one simple reason for that.
PW was made as pretty much a fanmade version of Ace Combat.
To this date, the vast majority of canon Ace Combat series have no checkpoints, and at the time of making of PW, only one (Ace Combat 6) *might* had it. (I'm not sure. If AC6 doesn't have checkpoints then no canon series had it during the making of PW.)
What's bad about having checkpoints as an option? AC7 have them (except two specific missions), but it's not strictly forces the player to USE them.
Yeah, some part of PW missions has "one phase only", then how about another part of them? Maybe something to make "2nd" phase harder if checkpoints is ON?

I like using checkpoints in AC7 for training purpose. It's more funny for me to be able quickly retry the specific phase, bossfight for example. And guess what? PW's mission 6, or 8, 11, 12, even 21 may be more enjoyable for me if they have checkpionts.
Let me fight with Crimson, Gladius, Frost etc without fearing the death so much.
Let me use different tactics without worry of failing so i'll can guess the best strategy quicklier.
Let me decide how much time i'll lose.
The person(s) responsible for the lack of either automatic or better yet, manual insertion of checkpoints, deserve the lemon award. Indeed, nothing to brag about.

Dev said game not for casuals. Checkpoints pretty casual. Game is eminently beatable the way it is and all the more rewarding. I even had to retry the missions a few times myself and adjust tactics. Shock, horror. You weren't meant to beat the game the first attempt through, why are people complaining that they have to practice at something, it isn't as though it's a concrete wall you absolutely cannot surpass

The AI in Ace Combat 4 didn't have multi fire laser guns and area denial superweapons like they do in PW. I can beat any game but that doesn't mean it's fun to repeat the whole mission because the AI got a lucky hit, it turns every mission into a slog.

idk how much ace combats have you played but laser guns, rail guns, wmd weapons and area instakill weapons are their trademark...

also, that of incomplete season pass, i agree it is incomplete, but isnt the first game that does a season pass that no includes all the DLCs so idk why you decided to go annoy AC players off all the options you had to...

Asking for a better checkpoints/savegame system is not the same thing as asking for an easy game...

You can have a game that allows you to save your progress without making the game easy...

well... there two kinds of checkpoints: the ones that give you full health and ammo and the ones that just save at a point. the first ones make the game definitively easy, to the point some AC speedrunners usually used it in games like AC7. the other kind of checkpoint no makes it easier but is worse, you can accidently step into a checkpoint with really low ammo or health. it will cause you even more frustration than no checkpoint because even having it you are really screwed but you wont want to restart the mission because it took you many time + checkpoint reached + attempts after reaching it. which will make you to come here to complain of difficulty and bad checkpoints. the lack of checkpoints makes people feel a sensation that you wouldnt have with them, the sense that you are risking all. it is something the Devs wanted it, this game were made as a requiem to the old AC games as they stated, games that didnt had checkpoints in them.

Checkpoints aren't even really needed in this game unless you're playing on Mercenary difficulty.
Wish these sorts of games had more air to ground combat thrown in, hell we only get one attacker, and no a 10 either

Harrier and Frogfoot are both attackers, so there are two. Still not a big number.

my point is therws no reason to no having shotguns in animal crossings. and, if they game did have shotguns with the option of not use or not them, it would solve my problem
Yeah pretty sad oversight. Even if I don't die in these missions, It's bad design nevertheless.
