A few issues were mentioned in patchnotes. 90% of cases are just people needing to bind their axes or disable steam input if steam is recognizing your peripheral as a gamepad.

Then best case scenario is 10% dont have a fix. Ill pass lazy devs

Which HOTAS do you have?
I had no problems with my x52 but its an older one.

I have a t16000m, disabled steam input & its still not detected. I try to map literally anything (simple keys or axis) & nothing comes up. Any clue on what can be done?

I had moderate success when using steam input & rebinding the hotas as a controller but its very janky & Id rather refund than have to do so.

Yeah, there's a fix for *after* you disable steam input to get things working, lemme find the steps and edit in...

Copypaste of someone else's write up:
This game should support every directX input joystick. But there is some issue with steam controller setting. To fix this problem try this:
Step 1: Make sure the steam detect your joystick correctly and not as generic or xbox controller. If yes, go to step 2.
If not:
• Disable all Controller Support Options
• Exit Steam and unplug the joystick
• Open the config.vdf file stored on your computer
• • By default it is located in - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\config.vdf
• Search for "SDL_GamepadBind" and delete everything underneath it
• Save the file
• Start Steam and plug in the joystick
Step 2: Right click the game in the Steam Games library and go to Properties. Then set the Steam Input Per Game setting to Forced OFF.
Step 3: Go to the game directory ...steam/steamapps/common/Project Wingman and open files LAUNCH WITH NO HMD in notepad. add to end of line -SDL2.dll and save the file.(ProjectWingman.exe -nohmd -SDL2.dll) .If you have VR do it in next LAUCH WITH .. files.
Step 4: Run the game, go to setting/control and set up all axis and buttons as you want.

I'd love to troubleshoot with you, and verify that you're in the settings menu trying to bind the pitch/roll/throttle/yaw,look X/ look Y axes as you encounter a roadblock, but it appears you've already refunded.

I've seen numerous cases of people writing off compatibility when they haven't gone through setup, or declaring that requiring the user to map things doesn't meet their standard of device support.

According to the dev, any setup that uses Xinput should work, and I've never come across a definitive case of someone's issue not being resolved by the already posted workaround that didn't seem to fit into the other two categories described above. It's definitely possible that there are legitimate issues, I'm just more inclined to believe user error in the cases I've seen brought up.

i have the t16000m fcs and was able to map , you have to map it as it doesn't do automaticly

I'm currently troubleshooting some issues, but my t16000m does indeed work.

My issue is that I have to rebind everything everytime I disconnect it and connect it again, which is a PITA. It might be because I'm also using some racing pedal as rudder (which also works flawlessly btw) but it's weird because I can see that everything is correctly binded in the options but it won't detect any input until I go ahead and rebind everything again.

I have now discovered that it has to do with the USB ports. You have to connect each device in the same USB port that was used to bind them or it will think it's a different device, annoying but not game breaking bug.

Sad to refund a game like this because you want to blame this game instead of steams controller configurator. This game, comparatively, is probably the easiest flight game in my library to get setup for controls.

I don't suffer from having to rebind every time. But even if I did, it's a matter of 2 minutes. Compared to crap like ED, Il2, DCS, ..

What exactly are you comparing this game too to refund it because you can't be assed to disable STEAMs controller crap interferring? Should have had that thing turned off from the very moment they introduced it because it's never done anything but cause problems for every single game that ever had native controller support. It's primary purpose was to try to make something out of that worthless touchpad they tried to push.

Unless you've been living under a rock you'd have known this.

Either way, your loss, because you won't find a better offering of this type of sim-cade fighter combat game. Not even AC7 Compares. Go try to rebind controls for that game.... then come back to this one. Reality will slap you like a tsunami.
or declaring that requiring the user to map things doesn't meet their standard of device support.
For as much as I rag on VR Only games not justifying themselves. It will never compare to the waste of time this mentality is. Every flight game in existence requires that commitment.

What games what HOTAS?
Delete Project wingman folder in user appdata if the uninstall don't do it.
Download project wingman demo. If your hotas will work in demo, then you will know that is something wrong in steam api, when the full steam version of this game doesn't recognise your HOTAS.
Then maybe GOG full version will be better for you.
Det.Bullock Jul 12, 2021 @ 5:23pm
Guys, disable the steam API globally and activate it only on a single game basis if you need it. That thing is made for games with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ controller detection or none at all, any game that can detect stuff on its own has chances of being screwed over by it otherwise. I have the GOG version and never had issues with controller detection.
