I had no problems with my x52 but its an older one.
I had moderate success when using steam input & rebinding the hotas as a controller but its very janky & Id rather refund than have to do so.
Copypaste of someone else's write up:
Truly, thanks for finding that. Way too hidden to access easily. Ill give the game a shot
I've seen numerous cases of people writing off compatibility when they haven't gone through setup, or declaring that requiring the user to map things doesn't meet their standard of device support.
According to the dev, any setup that uses Xinput should work, and I've never come across a definitive case of someone's issue not being resolved by the already posted workaround that didn't seem to fit into the other two categories described above. It's definitely possible that there are legitimate issues, I'm just more inclined to believe user error in the cases I've seen brought up.
My issue is that I have to rebind everything everytime I disconnect it and connect it again, which is a PITA. It might be because I'm also using some racing pedal as rudder (which also works flawlessly btw) but it's weird because I can see that everything is correctly binded in the options but it won't detect any input until I go ahead and rebind everything again.
I have now discovered that it has to do with the USB ports. You have to connect each device in the same USB port that was used to bind them or it will think it's a different device, annoying but not game breaking bug.
I don't suffer from having to rebind every time. But even if I did, it's a matter of 2 minutes. Compared to crap like ED, Il2, DCS, ..
What exactly are you comparing this game too to refund it because you can't be assed to disable STEAMs controller crap interferring? Should have had that thing turned off from the very moment they introduced it because it's never done anything but cause problems for every single game that ever had native controller support. It's primary purpose was to try to make something out of that worthless touchpad they tried to push.
Unless you've been living under a rock you'd have known this.
Either way, your loss, because you won't find a better offering of this type of sim-cade fighter combat game. Not even AC7 Compares. Go try to rebind controls for that game.... then come back to this one. Reality will slap you like a tsunami.
For as much as I rag on VR Only games not justifying themselves. It will never compare to the waste of time this mentality is. Every flight game in existence requires that commitment.
Delete Project wingman folder in user appdata if the uninstall don't do it.
Download project wingman demo. If your hotas will work in demo, then you will know that is something wrong in steam api, when the full steam version of this game doesn't recognise your HOTAS.
Then maybe GOG full version will be better for you.
