[VR] Game crashes when entering menu

Been trying to play the game in VR again, but every time I enter a menu after flying for any time (ex: mission debriefing OR pressing escape to adjust controls) the game crashes without an error message and won't start again; I have to restart my PC to even get it to boot again.

Tried both "normal" and beta branch, verified game files, updated all drivers -> issue persists.


Any ideas?

Edit: Should probably clarify - when the crash happens my screen freezes but I since I am still in VR I can move my head and the tracking still works as expected, I can also use my VR controllers to exit out of the connection to Steam VR and even reconnect back to the crashed screen.
I need to use task manager to kill the game to even get back to my computer, and in the meantime (while the game is frozen) my GPU fans go to maximum, which they NEVER do during normal operation.
If I had to guess I would say that the "crashed" screen goes to near infinite FPS causing my GPU to freak out like that, but since the screen is frozen I can't see the FPS counter.

HMD is a Pico 4
