Base Building Woes (can't seem to make planks)

I can't seem to make a plank. Can't find for the life of me where you make them. It isn't under crafting, I've watched YT videos and older versions had a "Materials" tab that allowed for planks, but I don't have a "materials" tab. The B key is for building, once you have planks. I have all the materials needed, ax, saw, hammer in my inventory.
Where did this materials tab go? I can craft bandages, flash lights, weapon repair kits, but no planks. Any help would be great. Thanks!

you dont make planks in this game - you cut wood with an axe from trees that then goes direct to whatever part you make via the "B" build menu - you must however have a saw and hammer in your inventory in order to craft base parts. Once you get the visual representation of the part placed (a semi transparent object) you then use your wood and nails to assemble it fully. Some other parts require additional materials such as sheet metal, door lock etc.

Thanks for the help! Older YT videos had me going in the wrong direction. I was also not in a good spot when I tried to do this, which was my bad, but searching for "the spot" seemed secondary to getting the planks done. Not sure why there can't just be a set of instructions for the game built-in. Some of us are a little dense. lol

The old building system used conversion, now it's just logs and nails.
