Where do I get food?

You can find canned food around points of interest (POI) on the map. There is also at least one black crate that appears in every POI area and usually has supplies in it too. So check everywhere within a building, like up in an attic.

You can also hunt ducks. Ducks can be found in tall, tan grass near water. Just walk near the grass, and they will fly out and shoot it. Then use a knife to harvest the meat, and then cook the meat over a fire.

You need wood to start a fire. The easiest way to get wood is with an axe, but wood can be found in abandoned campsites.

The next update will allow you to harvest bushes for sticks to make a fire, which is going to be a nice quality of life change.

The bots you kill will sometimes have it on them also there are campsites that usually have food and drink at them

Houses usually have canned food in them. Some servers spawn you with food items, the server you play on might affect this as well, while some have max loot, others have normal loot, make sure you check what settings you are playing on.

There is something going on with food and water. I am unable to find it. I played on weekend and found nothing. I am just about out.

You have to claim land (= put a sign somewhere) to be able to craft the water collector, once it's there you will have endless water, add the duck hunting like I told you in another post and you will have all you need.

To be honest, I did not buy this game to go duck hunting. I have been searching every structure I come by, boxes and all the AI dead. It's just weird it seems its not to be spawning for me. I will try a few more times then I am done till the big update happens.

Duck hunting would save you tons of time compared to looting every single building you encounter, which would then leave you with plenty of time for all the other fun stuff.
