But yeah, you can go only about your own stuff on the server, but beware as other players will often try to finish the same activities and you'll have to "race" them for loot.
Is it worth it? It has good gunplay, systems and atmosphere, it's just the question of "replayability value" given the current content and activities and that varies from person to person. Personally I feel like I'll get my monies worth as I'm having a blast and there are "stalkers" out there on the server who have played the game for ~30 times my hours and they still come back to hunt down some bandits and high-tier loot...
There's fun to be had, but you won't be completely solo and randoms are often wankers, who steal loot or mic spam (you can mute them tho). And the gameplay loop isn't all that rich as of now, but if you want a more grounded "STALKER-like" title, it's good.
Watch some gameplays. If you'll be still unsure, perhaps buy it on bigger sale down the road.
As for as building a base, yes, because this game has an 'online raiding only' system. You have a 20% chance that if you die you will drop a 'raid token' than can ether be destroyed or activated by another player. So even if you die and drop a raid token, you have a chance to recover your body and destroy the token.
No one can interact with your base unless a token has been activated on it.
The advantage of being solo with a base over a team is that a team of players all linked to a base also have a chance of dropped this raid token so the more people linked to a base, the higher the chance they have of being raided.
So as a solo player, you have a lower chance of having a base raid activated on you. especially if you're playing careful against other players.
Also, the server you play on can factor into the chances of you being raided as well. The official servers don't have a limit on how many players can join a squad and work together, so groups of players on those servers will often raid a lot more because they have more protection working with each other.
While on the community servers they often limit the squad size to 3 max. Which makes it a lot harder to raid successfully with only 3 people. It's also easier to defend against 3 players on your own than a large group.
Can you raid on PVE servers?
Agree to disagree, AI fights can be fun and the map has it's atmosphere - the game "works" as a roaming-based tac-shooter and map simply suplements it properly.
you'll find when you play a bit there is a loop, and you'll have more running then anything and see almost nothing.
heli ai are easy as they only work in a way, and it's easy to work out, much like bunker star ai, anyways you'll see the loop .
and till they start working on pve it's about as good as it gets.
Is the base building worth it? No. Not right now.
Base building has a number of issues and it is VERY shallow in terms of options.
You chop trees, they do not fall. There is only wood base elements and no upgrades available. This, despite there being sheet metal that you can collect for other things. Small floor tiles can't be placed in the middle of a floor. This is because they are coded to attach to scaffolding, and not each other. Small floor tiles and stairs placed below a level, can require you to tear down the levels above it, in order to remove them. There are only three items that you can place in a base currently. Those items are a workbench, a water collector, and a large storage box. No cosmetic items. No lights. No torches. No electricity at all. If you build a wall with a door, you cannot place a lock on it to upgrade the door. You must disassemble the wall and build a wall with a base lock instead. Walls with windows do not have the ability to add shutters. This is all I can think of ATM.
The base building system needs a major revamp, as well as a large number of additional features and options to make it worth playing over other games with base building. They added base building years ago and really haven't bothered to touch it since then.
If you have a supporter pack, that is.
This is mostly a running simulator as you'll be running miles each day, every point of interest and between quests are like 1 km or two in distance which most part you'll be travelling ON FOOT. until land vehicle comes out, this is what we all have to deal with for the moment.
