Private Server Hosting.

Will we be able to host private servers on are own servers or do we have to rent one?
Also will the private server stuff be out at the same time or later on down the line after the release?

I just found this game waiting for Dead Matter or As I like to call them the "Push back another 2 more months game"

So I am hoping that this replaces that wait because this looks awesome!

Private servers can be rented from GPortal. The server part of the game will not be handed out .
Server settings, various administrative functions, and other options will be implemented after the game is released to early access.

Well, that's disappointing. I was expecting to be able to host the game on a dedicated machine like I do with my other game servers.

I've been managing game servers for over 15 years now, and I've seen this kind of thing happen over and over again. A game with a lot of potential is released, on which the developers obviously put a lot of work. But then they go and make the same deadly mistakes: either they won't allow dedicated servers (as in community run servers), or when they do, they want to force people to rent servers from specific companies, which the vast majority of server admins won't accept. The result is always the same: after a few months, the player base is mostly gone and the game is as good as dead.

Good luck going with that business model - you're going to need it.

Yeah if we can't host servers on are own dedicated machines that is basically going to kill your game. Ask Miscreated that game is awesome but it took them too long to let us have are own dedicated servers and that game died quick.

I would highly rethink that idea guys.

Also letting people mod or have the server software to host servers is something that has saved MANY games from dying and the game being a flop.

well... no one who cares about their servers will pay for an extra server to host a single game on it when they have their own machines which could take a few of them... with more power than these rented servers ever will get...
so thanks but no thanks... i told myself to ignore games which doesnt support gamers/admins with selfhosted servers a long time ago

This is actually a huge problem at the moment. For example, the developers of the game "SCUM" went the same way and the only way to have their own server is to rent from G-Portal. It is enough to find reviews on G-Portal in Google in order to understand the quality of their services. People take servers from them, as there simply is no way out. I kept the server in SCUM at the G-Portal and there were constant problems that were not resolved.

And if you start a conversation for the price, then they are crazy. The server for 100 slots cost me $ 95. At the same time, judging by the graphs in the control panel, I got 1 core and 12 GB of RAM. Although at the same time, for the "ARK SURVIVAL" , I rent a i7-8700K server with 6 cores / 12 threads and 64GB of RAM for $ 70. The result of overpricing for a person. Therefore, I really ask the developers to share at least by "invitation" with people who want to make a server for your game

Where do you rent your server box from? $70 is a good price for that.

Agreed this is a huge mistake. Look at any game who has made this same mistake, they all end up failing. SCUM is a great example as listed above, they suffered MASSIVE issues at launch due to forcing everyone into G Portal. Release the private servers to the community on early access launch or this game is dead on arrival.
