I don't like the "I wish my house was X amount of spaces from..." requests.
I would like to build my town the way I want and these give me the feeling that I have to build it in a certain way.

Well, when you finish all the goals and get the stardrops, you can go ahead and revert everything?

I only need 1 more thing for Willow, but I haven't bought the blueprint for it yet, so I can get back to you if it does something more specific that you'll need to keep around

I actually like this feature, feels more like a living town and makes sense

on the one hand, I agree. It would be nice to build the town exactly how you want. And hopefully Redd500's idea will work. I'm not far enough into the game to know. Although I like Khurso's opinion too. Just like in real life, people who move into a town/neighborhood have different wants and desires. I hadn't thought of it that way and I think it's awesome really.

Except in real life you can't just show up and demand that the Mayor rearranges the town because you want to live closer to the store.

So for me it actually doesn't feel natural at all as I have to move buildings I've already built.

Well, it gives you room to adjust. You just need to keep things within a radius, but are still able to customize and design on you own. It's like when a graphic designer takes a commission. They can draw it how they like, but the client does request certain things be a certain way.

Also does anyone know how exactly that is measured? I have 13 spaces between the Town Square and Zanas House but the request (within 16 spaces) is not fulfilled...

I really love this game but these requests are really annoying...

Idk there are some entitled parents who would probably try that.

In real life as the mayor you can deny the person their request and keep their house where it is... just like in the game. And just like in real life, the person will not like that... just like in the game where you can't complete their house goals. Where is the issue here? You want to get rewarded for not doing what they ask?

If you don't want to move their house to a certain spot, then don't. But you won't get the reward. Only fair. :)

I really like the whole request system because it actually forces players to make the town and the interiors look good. We all know that most people wouldn't even give NPCs a bed unless they got something from it. I like that the inside and outside of houses are looking more like a "lived in" type of situation instead of a bunch of empty houses. I like the barrel and crate requests because it gives the outside of houses some personality. "This person likes having decoration outside"

I think if these requests weren't in place, people would just line all the houses up with nothing around them and all the houses would be empty.

I'm not sure what part of my post gave you the impression I don't like the request system. I actually do, and for a lot of the reasons you stated above. I just dislike this one type of requests.
It's a hassle to rearrange everything I have build to fufill these. And what makes it worse is that after I moved their house to fufill this request, they will have another one in the second tier, which makes me move everything again. (if we at least would know all in advance we could plan accordingly)

And assuming the requests will be the same for each playthrough (which I do atm as everyone seems to have a theme as opposed to random pieces of furniture), it severly limits the different ways you could build your town.

At the beginning I really thought about were to build something (I put Lilith away from everyone just in case she blows somoeno up for example), but now I'm just like: "Whatever. I'll have to move it later anyways." Which I find kind of sad as I really liked the planning part.

Edit: And "then just don't do it" is not a good argument for something that is, at least in my opinion, a flawed game mechanic.

Reread my last post and "flawed game mechanic" was not really fair on my part.

I guess these requests just move the planning part to a later stage of the game, which requeires another playstyle.

So I guess it's just not my cup of tea. But don't get me wrong. This won't stop me from pouring a lot of hours in this game as I really enjoy it as a whole.

Just to point out it doesn't limit the ways you can build your town that much.

The only requirement that request has is that the house be 16 spaces from the other building. That can be 0-16 spaces in any direction and the buildings can be on any part of the town area. The only restriction is that they basically need to be next to each other in some manner.
