Exploration feels kinda useless
That's my biggest issue with the game. I enjoy the combat despite its flaws and the dungeons design is really good and fun overall. However, exploration in this game feels so unrewarding it's a major flaw for me.

The majority of shiny objects you find are pretty much useless and serve no purpose more than collections. I found 16 out of them and I think only 2 of them so far have been of any use? I thought at first by looking at the description that they will help in side quests to get additional rewards like giving the wedding ring to someone and such but ultimately I discovered this is not the case.

Other than the shiny objects, you find nothing bar the 100 souls item or the shrines. That's it. The game offers no good rewards for going out of your way to explore old areas and trying to access what you couldn't before via your new abilities. What are you gonna find anyway? Either 100 souls or a useless shiny item.

Feels like a huge missed opportunity unfortunately, in an otherwise pretty fun game overall.

TBF there are spell upgrades that are kinda hidden, and at least two of the collectibles have uses, but its true that most of the items are literally useless. dont really understand the decision to ability gate the game into being linear either

To be totally honest, the spell upgrade that was worth it was the fireball. I didn't find any need for the other 3. They're still nice, but honestly hardly rewarding.

Depending on your playstyle, the hookshot upgrade can be incredibly useful. I find it the best way to beat the mace knights/poison knight, and you can use it reliably against many of the bosses, including the final one. It's also one of the best sources of melee damage if you do an umbrella run given the damage calc for it.

The bomb upgrade just allows you to use it at close range without taking splash damage, which is not really that helpful.

The bow's charge ability can also be very useful if you get the timing down right and is a better source of DPS per magic than either the fire or bomb.
