Why is there no map?
Are there reasons for that?
Do you think it makes the game better?
I am not sarcastic here, just curious.

Cheers

Same your opinion.
I don't understand why so many games doesn't has this feature, or it's simply bad. Sorry for my bad english

the one thing i have not liked about the game so far.

You don't need one? Just like dark souls, it's pretty much intuitive design.

Some games don't need a map, Harder games in the souls series don't have any maps. There is nothing wrong with it other than it forces you to explore if you get lost on your way back, to see new things and learn where you are supposed to go.

The thing with the souls games are that you can SEE where you're going. The locked camera angle makes such a thing a lot more frustrating. I can see to the next little spot but I can't tell if I'm going the overall right way.

Because you have to backtrack all over the map to get stuff with new powers you didn't have the first time through.

I just finished this game on game pass and while I liked it, the backtracking was made a lot more tedious by the lack of a map and having a map would have improved the game dramatically.

Also, I don't think the comparisons to dark souls make sense. Isometric games don't allow the player to see any significant distance, which dark souls does, so it works better there. Also, environments are better distinguished in 3d, it's not like in this game where every part of the graveyard, the overgrown ruins, etc. looks pretty similar so I had no idea where I was going half the time.

Because it's 2022 and there is no excuse to not have one. Anytime I tell someone about this issue the devs lose a sale. It's not game breaking, but it's game avoiding.

Did not even notice the game had no map. tbh I can't say it really needed one. The levels are so itsy bitsy small that it pretty easy to keep a mental map in your head.

Yeah...small...

Idk really, I did get lost a few times but for the most part, if you imagine staring down at each of the areas, they aren't really that big, they just join up alot so it can feel confusing.

I don't think a map would have hurt the game by any means, but I guess they probably just thought that it wouldn't really be necessary given the scale of the game

Going through them the first time isn't an issue, its having to revisit after you have a new ability that gets problematic.

Like I forgot there was a door sealed off by webs in the upper church area before Grandma's garden. That area is only six rooms.

It's annoying that game don't give you options. I saw a post said he think the game is too hard and want a easy mode to really enjoy the game. He joked he is too old to git gud. I totally agree with him because you can have this option and let player decide if he wants it. I think map can be a option for player to toggle on in the settings, too. Not everyone has time and energy to learn the monster's attacking mode and remember the map. I personally had very hard time remembering map in all game. (I beat the game but can't finish the secret ending because going over the entire map again to meet the requirement is too exhausting for me). No map and difficulty setting just expels some potential player and potential profits.

If compared to soul-like game, the latest soul-like game elder ring also introduces map system in the game - the map doesn't have to be very detail and mark all the item/monster/shrine etc. The game can have the map as a old scroll style drawing and let player drop personal markings, which still keeps the exploration feeling for some players.

All the comments saying they didn't get lost so no map is needed... Great but do you tell people walking with a cane they should walk without one because you don't need a cane so therefore no one needs it?

Not everyone's brain works the same. They could have the map something you turn on but it should be there as an accessibility option, just like captions. Maps are easy to implement. It's an abilist mindset to decide not to at least have it as an option. Sure it's a design choice but to equate it with something more people get it would also be a design choice to not have any captions available in a game because they want people to listen closely to understand. Yeah that's a legit artistic vision but it ignores and leaves out anyone who truly needs captions to know what's going on.

Same with maps. Artistic choice to make people explore and make their own mental maps. Cool. But too bad for anyone who can't make mental maps in a game. A basic compromise a lot of games do is have the map uncover as you explore it, if exploring is the real goal.

I was going to buy it since on sale but checked to see what's being said and saw this thread. Guess I wont be getting it now.
