Thoughts on the postgame/secret ending (SPOILERS)

So for starters I want to say I really enjoyed the game and was really excited to discover that there was interesting postgame content to explore. Remembering where to find the Avarice chest and locket was rewarding, and I really enjoyed the additional boss fight and sidequest with Jefferson the squid human.

That said I was hugely disappointed to learn that finding and planting every seed was required to see the secret ending. I had assumed that seeds and plantpots were purely gameplay conveniences and not something I'd need for 100% completion, and while I still grabbed every seed I could see I only planted them when I needed health, meaning I had almost 20 stockpiled by the end of the game. While I like Death's Door's world I already walked through it a lot to discover all the shrines and other secrets and even with doors indicating which areas to explore I really didn't want to spend hours tracking down the last seeds and plant pots. I'd be fine if this were an achievement, or if there were more warning planting seeds were required, but as it is requiring it for the secret ending seems too much IMO.

I ended up watching the ending on Youtube (a cop-out I know) and feel like that would have been kind of a letdown had I spent the necessary hours tracking down every last seed and pot. I imagine the reveal about Truth is interesting if you've played Titan Souls but as someone who didn't the discovery of some hidden figure pulling the strings doesn't really add anything IMO. Truth doesn't really have any direct effect on the events of the story or the Lord of Doors's actions (Grey Crow being assigned a soul on the other side I'd always assumed was simply an administrative error, and if anything knowing it was deliberate just makes Truth/The Free Crows look like jerks for putting him in an impossible position). For me it just felt like the guy from Fullmetal Alchemist popped up out of nowhere then claimed to be a bigger player in events than he actually was, which is kind of a letdown given how much work it takes to get there.

Again I really enjoyed the main game a lot so apologies if this comes across as overly negative (and SUPER long), but the inconveniences of the seed sidequest and an eventual reveal that doesn't have much significance unless you played a different game first did result in me walking away from the game on less of a high than if I'd just stopped after the main ending.

I was really disappointed that it is necessary to find and plant all seeds for the ending. I am only missing 4 seeds but I decided to watch the ending on YouTube. Not worth for me to collect them.

Oh come on. It's really so horrible to make folks earn something in the game? Getting all the seeds isn't even that hard. Who plays a game like this and doesn't want to explore it? It's not that big a game.

I dunno...I've gotten a ton of lackluster awards for doing side content. I feel the satisfaction of getting them done is most important and the perks you get for it are just a bonus. Don't do stuff you don't like just for the payoff...do them because you want to. You could have always just watched the ending on YT.

And, as it stands, I did play Titan Souls so I enjoyed the reference. I'd recommend everyone try that little game. It's usually very cheap.

The game has a tool and an NPC who tells that you the locations of missed seeds and pots. It shouldn't take hours to track them all down if you use those resources.
