Hollow Knight is an absolute masterpiece of a game, and has the same basic structure. The Ori games are nice too, but they lean more on platforming.
I meant RPG-lite mechanics like upgrading your character's skills.
I've already completed Hollow Knight but thanks for your recommendations anyway.
If you don't mind JRPGs, the Tales series has some good entries. You'll find bosses, puzzles, moveset customization, and some slight RPG elements in most of the entries. Not a lot of "tech trees" though from the entries I've played. You'll hear many different opinions on which one is the best. I grew up on Tales of Symphonia for the Gcube, so that's my bias. You'll see all of the elements you listed, plus neat dungeon crawling, in Symphonia.
Seconded. HLD is less forgiving and quite a bit more serious, but I'd argue it's more distinct than Death's Door.
Also yes, the Ori games, especially Will of the Wisps is worth a look if you like this.

And if you don't mind trying a rogue-like, Curse of the Dead Gods might interest you too:

but other than that, both games have similar exploration and combat. In HLD you don't really have upgradable stats, but you can unlock abilities and outfits that modify some of your stats.
The difference is that in HLD there's no written dialogue at all. You have to figure out everything by yourself. The outfits thing, like, change your stats but the game doesn't tell you what they do. I was able to 100% death's door with no external help thanks to all the characters telling you what you've missed; in hyper light drifter you don't have anything of the sort and you must rely on guides or external tools.
In any case, if you enjoyed death's door there's a good chance you'll enjoy hyper light drifter. The music is a masterpiece as well!
