Can I continue to play after reaching 'the end' or the game will just stop?

You can still play after the clock reaches zero. But if you decide to choose an ending, the game is over (the king needs to be awaken manually).

Yea I'm a bit peeved that I can't go back and do stuff after the ending. I just came back to the game, saw that the countdown was over and instantly went to wake the king. Now I come to the forum and find out that I missed a bunch of stuff such as a secret room, but I can't play the game anymore.

You can manipulate the savegame files to get back to the game before the ending. Just open saveData2.txt and saveit as saveData.txt

I died once, but just waited, and after some time, the game gave me the offer to start from the beginning. I'm not sure if that happens with every ending, though.

I tried doing this just like the developer said if i wanted to restore my save just before the ending, but after doing this, the game still shows me the credits. Does anyone have any other way to restore the files just before the ending?

maybe turn off Steamcloudsaves for the game before. Steam probably downloads all your old files again...

This doesn't help restore game to before the ending,
but if you just want to restart the game from scratch,
the dev made it so you can just wait 10 minutes after the ending.
and then be given the option to restart.
