A second Shade? Spoiler!

When I went into the darkness, I found hidden stairs and when I followed them, there were two yellow eyes like Shade's. I moved forward and the other Shade began to grin and said "I can see you". Now I can't go back. Did anyone else have this experience? Any suggestions about that? Did I accedently triggered a bad ending?

I just had this. It moved towards me and I couldn't flee. When it came near I woke up at home thinking I have had a terrible nightmare.

I am currently walking back to see if it is still there.

Exactly that happened to me as well! I wasn't able to go back. Please let me know, if you're able to or not.

I was able to go back. Second time around I had the brilliant idea of bringing a pink mushroom (which lights up!) so I could see the hidden way up. The light becomes suppressed however, so it gets totally dark before the eyes. I am not approaching the eyes as I suspect the same thing will just happen again. Right now I am trying to find out how to close my eyes, as I think it is what is spotted by it.
